Thanks Davonte for talking to German Hoops. Where are you at the moment and how has your summer been?

At the moment I am back home in the Tacoma/Seattle area just working on my game. And enjoying family before I leave.

Congrats on signing with German pro A team Ehingen. You didn´t play last season. How thankful are you that you will be able to continue your professional career?

I am extremely thankful for the opportunity to continue my career I know I can still play at a high level I just need the opportunity and thanks to coach and the management at Ehingen for believing in me.

How tough was it for you being away from the professional game for so long? What was toughest in this time for you to accept?

It was extremely tough but I needed to heal my body and make sure that I am 100% and ready to make a team better. The hardest to accept was the fact I had to wait and not have the chance to play.

It has only been a few days since the Golden State warriors let a 3-1 final series lead slip away to Lebron and the Cavs, but seriously will your neighbors over in Oakland survive the summer with this pathetic loss?

They will be fine Bron Bron is just too great . I respect greatness simple and plain.

I wasn´t too happy with my season. I had some bad games, but I think that I learned from my mistakes and the PRO A was a good experience and preparation for the NCAA.

Waves, Basketball And Tagalong In Hawaii For Christian Standhardinger

If at first you don´t succeed, then try try again is the famous quote by WC Fields which has been heard as much in sports movies in Hollywood as Lebron James has been dreaming about when he can finally present a few of his homies an NBA ring in Cleveland, but another guy who might have this famous quote engraved somewhere in his mindset is German Christian Standhardinger. Standhardinger is a 22 year old 203 cm forward from Munich that simply will not give up with the NCAA dream. The big German kid who is a very talented player that is able to stretch the floor with his three-point accuracy as well as get to the hoop with a quick first step and a variety of finishing moves in the paint came to football country at the University of Nebraska in the fall of 2009-2010 to become a house hold name in the college basketball world in the NCAA.
Despite starting in the fall of 2009-2010 at Nebraska, it took him a while to really get started in a Nebraska uniform, because he had violated the rules of amateurism and by the time that had all been taken care of, he had missed enough games that wasn´t really helping a struggling team that was craving for that savior. The German was able to play 16 games as a freshman averaging 8.1ppg, 3.8rpg, FGP: 40.9%, 3PT: 37.5%, FT: 78.3%. However as any basketball player can be hot or cold, he also made good use to this name having stellar games like producing 25 points and grabbing 8 rebounds against Iowa State, but there were other games where he seemed to disappear on the court as if he had been caught stealing a bundle of corn from a field from his Nebraska´s girlfriends father.

German Hoops  caught up with the American to talk basketball and to see what he is doing basketball wise in his off season.

How is your summer going? How tough is the market at the moment for finding a team?

My summer is going Great! This summer, I have probably touched more Basketball Courts in My Life because of all the traveling. I  have been to North Carolina, Tampa, Boston, Missouri, Germany, and now working out in Denmark. The market is always Tough trying to Find a Team , but this Year with the Rule changes and the NBA lock out, its going to make trying to find a good fit Team extraordinary hard . I Know Lots of really good players who haven´t heard any signs for Next Season yet, And with the numbers they put up you would think that is impossible.

Josh Wilson Makes A Name For Himself In Ehingen

On paper the ProB is just the third league in Germany. But in recent years many great players were able to leave a mark and make themselves a name in this league. The best example is probably Spot Up Medien Baskets Zack Wright. The American playmaker made it from Braunschweig’s ProB team to an All-Star in the first division in France.

This season many great point guards entered the league and their stats could serve them as a stepping stone to a great career in Europe. One of these promising players is former Northern Arizona playmaker Josh Wilson. The 22-year old point guard had a nice college career (All-time Assist leader in NA history) and started his pro career with Erdgas Ehingen this season. On a young team full of german talents Wilson had to show his leadership skills and had an impressive rookie season in Europe.

He took some time to talk to German Hoops about his first experiences in Europe.

After 4 years of NCAA basketball with Northern Arizona you turned pro last summer. Was that something you always planned to do? And how did you end up in Germany?

Becoming a professional basketball player is something that every basketball player dreams about. It’s something I strived for every day in my high school and college career. To be able to see it happen here in Germany has been a very fulfilling experience. I ended up here in Germany through my website, joshwilsonbasketball.com that has video and information about me and I sent the information out to teams. Nico Drmota saw my website and asked my former teammate Kristian Kuhn on the team about me. It ended up working out well and I got the opportunity to come to Ehingen.
