If at first you don´t succeed, then try try again is the famous quote by WC Fields which has been heard as much in sports movies in Hollywood as Lebron James has been dreaming about when he can finally present a few of his homies an NBA ring in Cleveland, but another guy who might have this famous quote engraved somewhere in his mindset is German Christian Standhardinger. Standhardinger is a 22 year old 203 cm forward from Munich that simply will not give up with the NCAA dream. The big German kid who is a very talented player that is able to stretch the floor with his three-point accuracy as well as get to the hoop with a quick first step and a variety of finishing moves in the paint came to football country at the University of Nebraska in the fall of 2009-2010 to become a house hold name in the college basketball world in the NCAA.
Despite starting in the fall of 2009-2010 at Nebraska, it took him a while to really get started in a Nebraska uniform, because he had violated the rules of amateurism and by the time that had all been taken care of, he had missed enough games that wasn´t really helping a struggling team that was craving for that savior. The German was able to play 16 games as a freshman averaging 8.1ppg, 3.8rpg, FGP: 40.9%, 3PT: 37.5%, FT: 78.3%. However as any basketball player can be hot or cold, he also made good use to this name having stellar games like producing 25 points and grabbing 8 rebounds against Iowa State, but there were other games where he seemed to disappear on the court as if he had been caught stealing a bundle of corn from a field from his Nebraska´s girlfriends father.

In his second season, expectations still seemed very high for the German who has Filipino ties, but he had a rocky relationship with coach Doc Sadler and his playing time decreased to only 18 minutes a game and he was setting up a bed in the Cornhuskers dog house. Before Cornhusker fans really knew what had happened, the short basketball career at Nebraska seemed to end abruptly as the German was booted off the team. Then according to many sources, he was offered a spot on the very religious school La Salle team, but he never played a second for that school as he had been charged with public indeceny. On account of this lewid act, La Salle erased their scholarship with Standhardinger about as quickly as Paris Hilton would exit a Woolworth after removing her big over-flated sunglasses and seeing she wasn´t actually in a Chanel store. Standhardinger had hit rock bottom in December 2010 and he first totally disappeared from the face of earth as quickly as one hit wonder three 6 Mafia did after Lolli Lolli(pop that body) did after their minor top 20 hit in the States to regroup and still try to keep that NCAA dream alive somehow.
Now 9 months later after that unforgettable evening in the car with the encounter with the police, Standhardinger is back in the NCAA even if he can´t play this season in Hawaii, but a year older and wiser and will have an additional challenge with the temptations of the big waves and always present new opportunities with girls that might cloud his basketball vision in his free time. Standhardinger is on the campus of the University of Hawaii, but will have to sit out the 2011-2012 season due to transfer rules. The German will be allowed to practice and workout with the team, but not be able to be inserted into games. He will be a junior in the 2012-2013 season and be allowed to play. Of course Standhardinger will miss gathering extra valuable experience in game situations, but he will be able to work on certain aspects of his game and have to focus only on that instead of added unwanted nervousness that is always present when your playing against a Duke or North Carolina. ““I think I will work on my ball-handling, on my defense, on my shot, pretty much a lot of things. But the most important things to work on for me are defense, and my left hand, and my ball-handling”, stressed Christian Standhardinger. The German who played for Erdgas Ehingen/Urspringschule before making the trek across the Atlantic ocean to test the waters in the NCAA had played for the German U-16, U-18, and U-20 teams, but hasn´t received an invitation yet to the German national team, might have caught some of the Eurobasket 2011 action on TV, but most likely is just enjoying his new life on the fantasy island Hawaii, but keeping in mind that basketball should be his first priority, but having a Filipino mom, he does understand a bit of Tagalog and might just have a second language version of If at first you don´t succeed, then try try again”.
