Ruben Spoden is a 21 year old 202cm forward that will split his time in 2010-2011 with the Walter Tigers Tuebingen and Erdgas Ehingen/Urspringschule. Ruben spoke to German Hoops about the upcoming season.

Ruben thanks for taking some time to talk to eurobasket. How has your summer been going? What have been your highlights?

Shortly after the season has ended I left for a one week trip to Mauritius, which definitely  has been my highlight this summer.

Have you been following the BEKO BBL transfer news? What has been the most spectacular signing this summer?

There were some very interesting signings but I cant really say what the most spectacular signing this summer was. I think that also the signings of the Bayern München team are very spectacular.

What can the German fans expect from the 2010-2011 BEKO BBL season?

I think there ,because of the new rules, will be more minutes for German players on the court. Also the game will change because of the new three point line, thats why I expect a lot more zone defense this season.

How does a normal summer workout day look like for you?

I worked out in Urspring most of the times, with some other BBL players, like Nico Simon or Jermain Raffington. A normal day included lifting, shooting and individual practice.

What parts of your game have you been working on?

Felix Czerny and Ralph Junge helped me to enlarge my range to the new three point line. But I also worked with Urspring athletic coach Michael Spoecker on my quickness, footwork and on my body to compete on the BBL level.

Last season your club Ehingen finsihed in 4th place with a record of 20-10. How happy were you with the team season?

On one hand we were happy because no one expected us to finish on the 4th place but on the other hand we lost some games very unfortunatly and didnt make it on the first 2 places because of that.

This season, you will continue to play with them. What can we await from the Ehingen season in 2010-2011?

Most of the players stay for another year. With the signing of Tobias Korndörfer we have a great player on the small forward spot, which I expect to improve a lot this year. And also players like Mario Blessing worked hard the last year and will proof that hard work will pay off.

Last season you averaged 14.8ppg, 5.1rpg, 1.3apg, FGP: 61.5%, 3PT: 32.6%, FT: 74.7% for Erdgas Ehingen. Will you be able to raise your game to even a higher level this season?

I worked out hard all summer, so I hope I can show that I am a better player than last season. I also want to be more present on the court and help the younger players. I worked a lot on my shot and on my quickness, I hope this will help me to lead the team to a great record.

How happy are you about signing with The Walter Tigers Tuebingen? What was the deciding factor that made you choose to go here?

My decision felt on Tübingen, because in my opinion we have one of the best coaches in the BBL who really wants to work with young players and want them to improve. The city and the people who work for the club are very professional and will give me the chance to raise my game to a higher level.

What is your first impression of Igor Perovic?

He is a great person and a very good coach. I watched him during some games last year and what I recognized is the way he talks to the players and how he wants them to get better and give 100% every second on court. As a player you really recognize that he wants to make you a better player.

You will practice with The Walter Tigers Tuebingen to get more experience. What exactly will your role be with this team?

You know, its always hard to say something about the role in the team or in the rotation, but I hope the coach give me the trust. I know I am a backup player now, but my aim is to become a starting player in the next years, so Ive got to work hard and be ready for every minute I will get on the court.

Has coach Perovic given you any idea about playing time in the BEKO BBL?

There will be enough chances for me to show my skills on the court, Coach Perovic has trust in me and I hope I will pay this trust back to him and prove that he is right to give me chances.

What will be the biggest challenge with playing in the BEKO BBL?

I think the speed. The BBL Basketball is much more athletic than the PRO B basketball and I need to work on my quickness and speed to compete on this level. Also the game itself is much faster, you need to make good and quick decisions every time.

You will be practicing with big men like Anatoly Kashirov and Kenny Williams. What do you want to learn most from these guys?

They both are strong players who already have some experience as professionals in Germany. It would be great if I could copy some of there moves and learn how to exist on the BBL level.

You played with Robin Benzing at TV Langen. Do you think that he will play in the NBA?

Robin has all the Talent to make it to the NBA, this is no question and I think everyone who has seen him play knows that. He needs to improve his defense and work on his body to be ready for the NBA. But I am sure he will make it.

What is your nicest memory with Robin Benzing while you played together at TV Langen?

Robin is a nice guy, there are some very nice moments on and off the court!

What incredible shot from Robin Benzing that you saw in a practice will you never forget?

I remember this one game, where we were down by 3 and Robin had the last shot and got fouled with the buzzer so he had to make all 3 freethrows and he did it!

What were the most free throws that you ever hit in a row in practice?

87 shots in a row

what was your most crazy shot that you ever made in a practice or game?

I have no idea

How well will the Deutsche Bank Skyliners play this season? They lost key players.

I am sure that the Skyliners will have a good team which will compete at least for the playoffs.

How well will the Miami Heat do with Lebron James this season?

Theres no doubt, that they have the best players in their Team, but the Heat have to play as a Team and need to fight to win a championship

How will The German National team fair at the World Championships in Turkey without Dirk Nowitzki?

I think they will be successfull, they wont win the tournament, but they will win some games and show that German Basketall is more than just Dirk!

What was the last DVD movie that you saw?

I cant say that, because its to long ago, but I just saw the movie Inception which was awesome!

Thanks Ruben for the chat! Good luck this season.
