Telekom Baskets Bonn

Tony Gaffney (Telekom Baskets Bonn) I Dont Know If There Is Another Player I’ve Played With That I Have Connected With On The Court Like Jared Jordan

Tony Gaffney is a 29 year old 206cm forward from Berkely, Massachusetts that is playing his second season for the Telekom Baskets Bonn. He is a forward who brings a high level of energy and athleticism to any teams he joins. He is a tenacious rebounder and great defender. He was the Atlantic 10 Conference defensive player of the year in 2008-09, and one of the nation’s leading shot-blockers. He played at Boston University from 2004-2006 and then went to Massachusetts (NCAA) where he played from 2006-2009. In his senior year, he played 30 games: 11.5ppg, RebA10-2(10.2rpg), 1.7apg, StealsA10-2(2.0spg), BlocksNCAA-3(3.8bpg), FGP: 54.2%, 3PT: 33.3%, FT: 64.6%: Finished career at UMass ranked seventh all-time in blocks (174). In 2009-2010, he played for Altshuler Saham Galil Gilboa (Israel-Premier League): 1 game: 2pts, 2reb, 1steal, 1block, but left next month, in Apr.’10 moved to Boston Celtics (NBA). In 2010-2011, he played for the Boston Celtics (NBA), in Oct.’10 moved to Turk Telekom Ankara (Turkey-TBL): Turkish League: 8 games: 6.0ppg, 2.4rpg, FGP: 63.0%, 3PT: 33.3%, FT: 80.0%; EuroChallenge: 3 games: 8.0ppg, 4.7rpg, 1.0spg; left in Jan.’11, same month acquired by Utah Flash (D-League): 38 games: 10.3ppg, 6.8rpg, 2.3apg, 1.4spg, Blocks-4(2.3bpg), FGP: 55.9%, 3PT: 27.8%, FT: 66.7%. In 2011-2012 he played for the  Telekom Baskets Bonn (Germany-1.Bundesliga, starting five): German League: 37 games: 12.9ppg, 6.1rpg, 1.5apg, 1.3spg, Blocks-1(1.8bpg), FGP: 63.1%, 3PT: 31.3%, FT: 68.8%; EuroChallenge: 12 games: 11.6ppg, 5.4rpg, 1.1apg, 1.3spg, Blocks-1(2.1bpg), FGP: 63.0%, 3PT: 32.1%, FT: 58.8%. A big 82-80 win in Vechta. The Telekom Baskets Bonn have had some huge wins this season like against Alba Berlin, ratiopharm Ulm or Tuebingen where you guys pulled it out at the end. Where would you rate the win against SC Rasta Vechta in comparison to other tight wins this season?

We have had many come from behind wins and close game wins, I think that the biggest factor in that is having a veteran team with a group of guys that never get rattled, and that is also part of the reason for having a 9-2 record on the road in the BBL, which as every player in this league knows, its not easy to win on the road. This Vechta game, being down 8 with 4:30 to go, in a game that we knew we had to win going forward late in the season and pushing towards the playoffs. From here on out, every single game is the most important game of the season, starting with Bremerhaven on Saturday at the Telekom Dome.

Tony Gaffney Brings That NBA Showtime To The Telekom Baskets Bonn

If your a Telekom Baskets Bonn fan, then one can complain over the years about the inability of being able to celebrate a title in the former German capital as the team has been very close  a few times and no closer than the 2009 finals losing in five games to the EWE Baskets Oldenburg. American players who have had the honor to strap on a Bonn jersey over the years may have been encountered with the expression “Bonn is the basketball version of the Buffalo Bills football team that lost four Super Bowl finals, but never won one. However one thing that fans can´t complain about is having had the luxury of seeing amazing players play in Bonn over the years like Beko BBL dinosauer Chris Ensminger, or ex NBA player Ronald Dupree, but even when one looks at the current team, there are so many fascinating players like high flyer who likes to dunk in a suit Ryan brooks, mr three point king Benas Veikalis, top Beko BBL point guard Jared Jordan who can pass the way that God rules and possibly the friendlist player in the league and one of the few guys that was on the roster of the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers Tony Gaffney. The fact that Jordan is playing his fourth season in Bonn and Gaffney came back for a second tour of duty has to speak for the respect that the Telekom Baskets Bonn organization carries. Gaffney is a 29 year old 205cm power forward from New England that is abck for a second tour of duty with Bonn. Gaffney who also played at  Massachusetts (NCAA) and in Israel came to Bonn in the 2011-2012 season and played 37 games beko BBL games averaging  12.9ppg, 6.1rpg, 1.5apg, 1.3spg, Blocks-1(1.8bpg), FGP: 63.1%, 3PT: 31.3%, FT: 68.8%; EuroChallenge: 12 games: 11.6ppg, 5.4rpg, 1.1apg, 1.3spg, Blocks-1(2.1bpg), FGP: 63.0%, 3PT: 32.1%, FT: 58.8%. From his previous experience and stats, it was obvious why Bonn hauled in the Boston sports fan. “He is a very good player. He likes to attack the hoop, always helps rebound and is one of the fastest position four players in the league. He never stands around and is one of the most effective players”, added Andreas Bottcher. Bonn has had many talented and successful power forwards in the last years with Aleksander Nadjfeji, Brandon Bowmann and Ronald Dupree, but none add up to the talent of Gaffney. “We have had some good four men in Bonn, but never had such a good shot blocker like Gaffney. He has such long arms and can do so much on defense. He is  a huge enrichment for the Beko BBL. I almost forgot, you should watch him dribble on the fast break”, smiled Andreas Bottcher. Last season Gaffney took his good stats from Germany and played in Spain for  FIATC Joventut Badalona (Spain-Liga Endesa): 23 games: 11.5ppg, 5.9rpg, 1.8apg, Steals-5(1.6spg), Blocks-5(1.3bpg), FGP: 55.9%, 3PT: 25.0%, FT: 64.5%. Last fall he showed a great performance with the Memphis Grizzlies, but got caught up in the numbers game and was one of the last cuts. His stats are down a bit this season from his first season with Bonn, but since arriving hs has been fairly consistent, but just needs to improve his three pointer a bit. His teammates will never be bored, because he will always have NBA stories from the Celtics and Lakers and is proud that he was in their organization. “The Lakers treated me very well, They were very open to me. They told me how I was going to stay in this league. They showed me the ropes. I’m grateful for that. We talked for about half an hour and they explained the situation to me and how they wanted to keep me and finances just weren’t in my favor, which was understandable because this is one of the biggest businesses in the world,’’ As a rookie I got to see that first hand, which is kind of cool. The Celtics signed Shaq, Jermaine o Neal and Delonte West and it was obvious that there would be no room for me”, added Tony Gaffney. The dream of getting to the NBA is still there, but it is obvious that playing for the Telekom Baskets Bonn is very important to him and his number one priority now. “Gaffney knows that Bonn isn´t the limit. He will enjoy his time in Bonn and always give 100%. He knows exactly what he has in Bonn”, warned Andreas Bottcher. Bonn fans should enjoy every Jared Jordan-Tony Gaffney ally-op hook up, because there won´t be any better NBA Showtime in the Beko BBL than that. Separating Jordan and Gaffney in Bonn would be as hurtful like separating Chris Paul and Blake Griffin in Los Angeles. Rumours of Bamberg trying to get Jordan have erupted, but if Bonn management have any dignity should let the dollar signs sink in the Rhine river.

Where Will The Bonn Journey End This Season With Matthias Fischer?

Every once in a while coaching era´s have to come to an end like Mike Taylor´s run did in Ulm or Doc Rivers did with the Boston Celtics. Somes era´s come to an end as in Ulm with Taylor as unexpected and unexplainable as the release of ex Fraport Sklyiner Dawan Robinson whose bright star shone under Muli Katzurin, but dimmed away under Gordon Herbert who didn´t give the Philadeplhia native as much freedom or expected as with Doc Rivers where their had always been the one or other rumour that he was on his way out. The same thing happened to Mike Koch who was dismissed from Bonn after last season. Koch who has a player resume to die for winning  4 Greek titles, German titles with Bayreuth and Leverkusen, a Euroleague and the 1993 EM coached Bonn from 2005-2013. In the last years, there were always rumours that he was on his way out, but instead management continued to have faith in him hoping for a title. Despite many high caliber players like Jason Conley, Jason Gardner or Tony Gaffney, he never won a title having to settle for second place three times with two final appearances 2008 and 2009 and a cup final. Koch has that staple of always finishing second, but he will never be forgotten in Bonn reaching 7 of 8 playoffs and may even have  a new duty soon being  a fireman and saving a another BBL team in need. Matthias Fischer is no unknown face to the German basketball scene. He started his coaching career with Rhondorf and was an assistant under Sasa Obradovic in Köln wining a cup and BBL title in 2006. He coached the Luxemburg national team and for three seasons Allianz Swans Gmunden where he won a meisterschaft and cup. Last season he got valuable coaching experience in Giessen what it is like playing half a season with nine Germans and two Americans. He is a coach that wants to present good team defense which sparks the offense which will have many different ways of annoying the opponent with fast break play with their athletic players to lead to easy baskets and a lethal set play offense with many options. His biggest strength is giving his players self confidenceThe club has won some close games so their nerves in crunch time are alert in the early going. This is the first real team that Fischer has where he has a real substantion higher budget an dit will be interesting where he can lead Bonn to this season. Despite the Beko BBl getting more competitive each season, the club has a very solid roster and the playoffs should be reachable.

Tony Gaffney (FIATC Joventut) It Is Impossible To Replace Jared Jordan

Tony Gaffney is a 28 year old 204cm forward from Berkely, Massachusetts that is playing for  FIATC Joventut Badalona this season. How well have you digested the New England Patriots loss against the Baltimore Ravens?

I have not digested it well. I am a diehard Patriots fan, but I have to admit that the Ravens were simply better than the Patriots were on this night. I am happy though that Ray Lewis has another chance to win a Superbowl.

Was this the last chance for the New England Patriots and Tom Brady or will they come back? Tom Brady is turning 36 this year.

I think that Tom Brady has 2-3 more good years left of playoff football. I think that the Patriots will do what they do each year and come back strong and be in the hunt again. I think that Brady is still the smartest quarterback and best arm in the NFL.

If you had to rank the top four Boston sports teams how would you rank them?

Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins. I was under contract with the Boston Celtics for 6-7 months and I still have a warm spot for them.

John Bowler Retires (I Wish Everyone To Remember Me As A Player Who Gave Everything And Left His Heart On The Floor)

John Bowler is a 28 year old 206cm center from Chicago that has announced his retirement. He played at Eastern Michigan from 2002-2006. His best season was his senior year where he played 28 games averaging 20.1ppg, 10.8rpg, 2.5apg, FG: 54.9%, 3PT: 28.6%, FT: 72.3%. He came to The Telekom Baskets Bonn in 2006 where he played until 2010. His best season was 2007-2008 where he played 39 games averaging 12.1ppg, 5.3rpg, 1.1apg, 2FGP: 56.0%, 3PT: 41.9%, FT: 70.5%. He reached two BBL finals and one BBL Cup final. He played for  EnBW Ludwigsburg (Germany-1.Bundesliga) from 2010-2012 playing 18 games: 11.1ppg, 4.7rpg, 1.2apg, FGP: 51.1%, 3PT-3(50.0%), FT: 79.2%. He was voted most liekable player in the Beko BBL in 2008. He spoke to German Hoops about his basketball career.

John you have retired from professional basketball. How tough was it making this decision?

It was extremely tough and the hardest decision I have ever had to make in my entire life.  I love basketball and I will be involved in basketball for the rest of my life but I had to make the decision that was best for my family and I.

You only played six professional seasons. In mind you must feel too young to be retiring or not?

I prefer to look at the positives and not on things I haven’t had.  Yes I would have loved to have played more but I had a great career.  I was given a great opportunity to play professional basketball and I played 6 phenomenal seasons at some of the highest levels of basketball with the best teammates, coaches, and fans.  Some don’t even get the chance to play. So I feel that I am blessed and had an awesome career.

Danilo Barthel Proves White Men Can Dunk Dunking The Fraport Skyliners Past Bonn 78-53

Last season, Ted Scott who hails from Jeff Gibbs country Columbus, Ohio was unleashing his deadly three pointer in small arenas in Portugal against teams like Fiscia, Alges or Ovarense, but this season, the American who adores sweet candy like Justin Bieber does Captain Crunch and is known as the candy man has joined forces with the Fraport Skyliners and quickly showed his special Ohio basketball talent as he netted 20 points in his debut in Trier. He had to wait 13 days until he could finally make his home debut in the Fraport arena. One could see it with his eyes in warm ups that he was as focused to help his team win and fascinate the home crowd with his swish shot as Seatle Sea Hawks Richard Sherman was to twittering hostility against the New England Patriots after their win, wrestling legend Hulk Hogan suing for 100 million about a sex tape or Felix Baumgartner was to breaking the speed of sound. Scott helped propel the Fraport Skyliners past the Telekom Baskets Bonn 78-53 and was very excited talking about his first game in the Fraport arena. “It was crazy in the arena. The fans were very loud and I felt very comfortable playing my first game here. The arenas were a lot smaller in Portugal, but still a good atmosphere like here. I am a little sad that my shot, but I didn´t worry too much about that, because the most important thing was that we won”, stressed Ted Scott. Scott played 24 minutes netting seven points on 3/11 shooting and two rebounds, but his teammates are very happy to have him on the floor. “Scott is a scorer and forced the opponents defense to play a different way. When he is on the floor, everything opens up”, added Fraport Skyliner guard Johnathan Jones.  In a blowout win like this, the Fraport Skyliners also learned it can win without getting a 20 point game from Scott. “Tonight it was about finding guys at the right moment and getting them into scoring situations. We showed a team effort. Scott is a fearless shooter and even on a night like this, if he misses eight shots, then he will shot the ninth shot with the same amount of confidence. He always shoots with confidence”, warned ex LTi Giessen 46er Zach Peacock.

Jared Jordan (Telekom Baskets Bonn) Tony Gaffney And I Have A Great Connection On The Court

Jared Jordan is a 27 year old 188 cm pure point guard who understands how to run a team and has great court vision and leadership and hails from Hartford Connecticut. He played at Kingswood-Oxford prep school before going to Marist from 2003-2007. He really made a name for himself as he gave the word assist a new meaning as he was leading the nation in assists in his junior and senior years. In his last year, he played 33 games and averaged 17.2ppg, 5.9rpg and led the NCAA in assists with 8.7apg, 1.4spg, FGP: 42.5%, 3PT: 29.8%, FT: 69.0%. He finished as Marist’s all-time leader in assists with 813 and ranks sixth all-time in points with 1,538. It was no surprise that he was drafted by the Los Angeles Clippers in the second round at #45. He was traded to the New York Knicks, but didn´t make the roster so he ventured to Europe and played at Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius and played in the Lithuanian league averaging 5.9ppg, 1.8rpg, 4.3apg, 1.1spg, FGP: 51.2%, FT: 75.0%, 3PT: 45.0%; and in 18 games in the Baltic League averaging 6.0ppg, 1.8rpg, Assists-4(4.4apg), 1.9spg, 2FGP: 47.5%, 3PT: 41.7%, FT: 53.8% in 10 games. In the 2008-2009 season, he tried his luck again in the NBA landing with the New Orleans Hornets, but not making the team and playing in the D-league for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers playing 36 games and averaging 10.9ppg, 3.8rpg, Assists-2(9.0apg), 2.0spg, FGP: 45.9%, 3PT: 28.0%, FT: 70.3%. In 2009-2010, he played the first time for the Telekom Baskets Bonn (Germany-1.Bundesliga, starting five): EuroCup: 5 games: 6.4ppg, 3.4rpg, 4.4apg, FGP: 37.9%, 3PT: 10.5%, FT: 80.0%; German League: 37 games: 9.0ppg, 4.2rpg, Assists-4(5.3apg), FGP: 43.4%, 3PT: 32.1%, FT: 76.8%. Last season, he played for : VAP Kolossos Rodou (Greece-A1, starting five): 27 games: 6.3ppg, 2.6rpg, Assists-1(5.5apg), FGP: 52.3%, 3PT: 23.2%, FT: 56.0%. He spoke to German Hoops before the playoff series against the Brose Baskets Bamberg,

A do or die 81-62 win against the Fraport Skyliners last weekend. Where would you rank this game in your all time do or die games?

This was one of the biggest wins in my career. All was on the line playing against a direct competitor. It was a good win for the club and me.

The first quarter was pretty much even, but the turning point came in the second quarter. What was key for this?

We picked up our defense. We allowed the Skyliners to nine points in the second quarter and 10 points in the third quarter. We understoon that we needed to defend better and up our intensity level.

Chris Ensminger Doesn´t Need A Lawnmower Mowing Down The Fraport Skyliners 81-62 Into Summer Vacation

Sometimes winning on foreign soil can be as difficult for a Beko BBL team as it is for singer Chris Brown to sell cute pit bulls or ex professional baseball/football player Deion Sanders not being able to somehow weave away from from wife who jumped him in a domestic dispute as teams like the New Yorker Phantoms Braunschweig have had almost a 10 year win less drought in Frankfurt and the Fraport Skyliners seemingly being jinxed in Bamberg for many years until finally winning again in the 2010 Beko BBL playoff series. The last time that the Fraport Skyliners won in Bonn, George Bush junior was still president, Kevin Durant was still in high school, Lebron James was in his second season with the Cavaliars and Murat Didin was in Frankfurt for his first tenure leading the Bermuda triangle to success. The last win in Bonn was 87 months ago as Chris Williams poured in 27 points ad hauled down 16 rebounds in the old Hartberg gym on January 1st, 2005. Since the win, the Fraport Skyliners have lost five times in the old gym and three times in the new Telekom dome arena and with the do or die game on the line, Jimmy Mckinney was trying to bring some luck after registering his best scoring game with 28 points against the Walter Tigers Tuebingen last weekend which took him five years to best after scoring 22 points in Karlsruhe, the American was hoping to end the long losing drought in Bonn with his production, but instead the Telekom Baskets Bonn didn´t want to go into summer vacation just yet as they wore down the Fraport Skyliners winning their 8th game in a row against Frankfurt rather convincingly 81-62. Even with one minute to play and the game seemingly lost, Mckinney was still yelling commands at his teammates as if the game could still be won showing that giving up is never in his game plan or is his knowledge of past misfortune in the former German capital. “I had no idea that I had never won here, but it is always tough to play here, because the crowd helps them out a lot”, stressed St Louis native Jimmy Mckinney. Bonn head coach Michael Koch has never lost to Frankfurt at home and was also surprised about the positive record the last years. “I also had no idea that we have had their number. I do remember the two wins at home in the 2008 playoffs, but to be honest if we had been more stable during the season, we wouldn´t have had to come it come down to seeing if Frankfurt could finally win again here if we had played better during the season”, warned Telekom Baskets Bonn head coach Michael Koch. “I don´t believe that Frankfurt is jinxed here. You can´t believe in a curse anymore when you have been a Red Sox fan as long as I have”, smiled Tony Gaffney.

In a do or die game, there is always going to be a very unhappy loser at the end, but it was most vital that the Telekom Baskets win the game since missing the playoffs for a second straight season would have been more than bitter. It was a total team effort, but it was Beko BBL veteran Chris Ensminger who showed again why he is probably the best 38 professional basketball player that has ever walked the face of the earth as he led the Telekom Baskets Bonn with 23 points on 10/15 shooting and five rebounds. He showed time in and time out that ex NBA player Jermareo Davidson was dog meat making the American look more like 38 while he was strutting his Ohio basketball talent like a 28 year old mowing down the opponent with a basketball instead with a lawn mower. “I was never athletic, so even now in my old age, I can´t say that I have lost my athletcism. I am probably fitter now than when I came out of college. I just have a lot of experience taking care of my body and just try to help my team win with defense, rebounding and scoring in the low post”, added two time Beko BBL champion Chris Ensminger. Jimmy Mckinney has played against Ensminger for six seasons and knew that he was the spark that fueled his team. “Ensminger could do what he wanted to. He got his team going”, added Jimmy Mckinney. “Ensminger looked like a man among boys tonight. He did a great job keeping Frankfurt off the glass. Chris and I always talk before the game and our goal is always to be the two best big men on the court”, warned Bonn forward Tony Gaffney. “Our goal was it to get the ball inside. I told him before the game that he should take 12-15 shots and at the end it was 15 shots that he took. We followed his lead which made the team successful”, added 2007 NBA draft pick Jared Jordan. It wasn´t only Ensminger that brought success, but also some other factors. “Our game plan was to get the ball inside. We got many easy buckets and it was our best defensive game of the year. Important was that we started strong at each quarter just staying calm”, stated Telekom Baskets Bonn head coach Michael Koch.

For the Fraport Skyliners, reaching the Beko BBL playoffs four months ago was about as realistic as Jermareo Davidson playing for Phoenix Hagen next season as the team was in 17th place at Christmas.

Will Jared Jordan-Tony Gaffney Ally-Opp One Last Time Against The Fraport Skyliners April 28th?

This season in the Beko BBL, there have been numerous new players that have dazzled the fans week in and week out with their spectacular play this season like never before giving the league a special spice like EWE Baskets Oldenburg Bobby Brown with his hot shooting and nonstop penetration driving the opponents defense as crazy as Kim Kardashian does Paris Hilton, Fraport Skyliner Jermareo Davidson being able to take his fade away jumper over any defender with as much ease as Kevin Mchale used to do it back with the Boston Celtics or FC Bayern Munich center Jared Homan who at times looks as expressionless on the court as ex President Aberham Lincoln, but he able to consistently be a force under the boards with his stellar play. It isn´t always only single individuals that the fans come to see but also dynamic duo´s like Jared Jordan and Tony Gaffney from the Telekom Baskets Bonn. Jordan is the top assist man in the Beko BBL who also goes by Mr pass and could probably make the perfect pass even if he was high in the stands in the Telekom dome having a bag of pop corn in his right hand while Tony Gaffney has the unique distinction of being a player who has been a Laker and Celtic, but never played a single game for either club. What this dynamic duo does frequently and well is giving the fans a dose of ally-opp stew making that game so much more delectable for the fans. For Bonn fans, they can only hope that the duo of Jordan-Gaffney will not ally-op for the last time this season against the Fraport Skyliners April 30th. Ex Skyliner Ilian Evtimov got a close hand look what these two Americans are capable of. “When you have a point guard like Jared Jordan, he can get the ball anytime anywhere, and then when you add the athleticism of Gaffney it is a great combination. It becomes natural. They did burn us a few times. Gaffney caught a few very difficult passes and made incredible dunks. It often happens when you least expect it. Gaffney is a very good and athletic player. He likes to play on his athletic skills. If there is a ball up it is likely he will catch it and try to dunk it. They have a good combination because they know each other well. Plus Jared Jordan really knows the game. He knows how to pass the ball as good as anybody I have played with. He reminds of Adam Emmenecker. I have never got an ally op dunk, my teammates know to find me at what I do best, shooting the three. Oh and it is worth more points by the way”, Joked Chalon forward Ilian Evtimov.

Tony Gaffney (Telekom Baskets Bonn) Is Like A Modern Day Paul Revere With A Celtic Pride Ribbon

After the satisfying 79-63 win against The Fraport Skyliners and 4th win in a row to start the season for The Telekom Baskets Bonn, Tony Gaffney exited the locker room not jumping around enjoying the moment like an overzealous Terrell Owens, but being relaxed and soaking in the moment mentally and before talking to the media, he politely excused himself because he had to exit the catacomb of the arena and visit the some 100 Bonn fans who had made the 1.30 hour journey to cheer their team on. Gaffney isn´t your typical American that might think first about himself and start talking about himself into some microphones, but he is a guy that knows what is proper and first thinks about how he can make others happy first, before soaking up some glory. In a way, Gaffney is like a modern day Paul Revere who was known for his help and midnight run for alerting colonial forces of the approaching British forces before the battles of Lexington and Concord April 7th 1775. Both were from the Boston area and Gaffney is the kind of guy that wants to help out on the court and make his teammates better. In the last five years, Bonn head coach Michael Koch had hauled in 35 Americans out of a total 60 players and often received very strong individual players, but often more interested in their own stats than the good of the team. Gaffney seems to be the complete opposite as his unselfishness is as normal as teammate 2007 NBA Draft Pick Jared Jordan looking to set up a teammate than shoot. “He likes the extra pass. If he is directly under the basket, but someone else is just a bit closer to the basket, he wont hesitate to make an extra extra pass”, commented Telekom Baskets Bonn sport director Andreas Bottcher. His mentality also seems to be totally anti American when it comes to his focus especially off the court in Germany. “Tony always wants to learn. He is always focused in life and totally open minded. He is not your typical American that might sleep to 12, but he gets up early has breakfast and asks himself what will I do today.
