John thanks for talking to German Hoops. Where are you at the moment and how has your summer been?

Thank you for the interview Miles. My summer was short but as usual nothing beats California during the summer time. At the moment I am in the city I grew up in Visalia, California just getting ready for the upcoming junior college basketball season as I run my own news service www.signalthelightbasketball.com which covers mens junior college basketball within the state of California. So for the next six months it is going to be a lot of writing articles and a lot of watching basketball up and down the state.

The new season in Germany has already started in the Pro A and Pro B and BBL starts Friday. This is the second autumn where you aren´t on a professional basketball team since you retired from the game. Does missing the game get a bit easier as time goes by?

To be honest, it has got harder as time has gone by and I do miss it a little bit more this season than the first season sitting out. I mean at first I didn’t really think about it because I thought about how my career ended. The thought of that situation did not make me think about it but looking back now how I handled things and realize I should have appreciated a lot more towards the end of my career. I thought more about the things I didn’t have instead of enjoying the experience and seeing the bigger picture. I think more than anything it has made me appreciate things. Plus, I had to transition my life without basketball so without having a career and trying to find out what I was going to do without playing ball, I didn’t really think about missing it.

Always been a lot of fun to be around, and wants to do anything to help his team and teammates succeed and as a basketball player, those are the kinds of teammates that make seasons so enjoyable, people like slick rick”, stressed Tony Gaffney. Harris spoke to German Hoops about basketball and his experiences playing against new Fraport Skyliner Jordan Theodore.

Ricky thanks for talking to German Hoops. Where are you at the moment and how has your summer been?

I’m in Sacramento right now working out and training with my best friend Rudy Gay before he goes to training camp. My summer was very productive did a lot of working out and also enjoyed my time with my family and friends but I’m ready to get back to work.

The Beko BBL where you played for teams like Wurzburg and Trier start in less than two weeks and other leagues start soon, but you are still unsigned at the moment. Has the summer transfer period been more competitive than other years?

This summer has been very tough for me. This is the longest that I have ever been still in the states and not on a team so it’s been mentally frustrating but I’m ready for when my number is called.

Devin thanks for talking to German Hoops. Where are you at the moment and how has your summer been?

Currently in Austin and my summer has been great.

The last three summers you were signed by Frankfurt, Kalev and Kangoeroes Basket Willebroek in Belgium. This summer however you are still unsigned in mid August. How has the summer signing process been for you? Not enough offers or not good enough offers that have come your way on the table?

The summer signing process has been good. Difference in this summer and past summers I have chosen not to sign as early and kind of weigh my options. There have been decent offers on the table but not quite what I am looking for right now.

Are you getting a little nervous now that the summer has been dragging on and you still have not found security with a team for the 2015-2016 season?

As of now I’m not getting too nervous because I am in contact with a few teams and I’m sure something good will come out of it. Right now In my career I would just like to go to the right situation.

Ashanti thanks for talking to German Hoops. Where are you and how have you been enjoying your summer?

Sure no problem and thank you for this opportunity. I am enjoying my summer in Los Angeles, California and having a great summer. I’m working out staying in basketball ready shape, and training kids in basketball skills. Also taking a vacation or two here and there, that’s how I’m enjoying my summer.

Time really flies Ashanti, your turning 31 years old and it has been almost 10 years since you were a rookie with Braunschweig in Germany. Has your professional basketball career really flown by or has the lack of games in nine seasons made your career seem quite long?

Yes it does, time flies so fast. I remember it like yesterday I was a rookie in Braunschweig and learning the ropes of European basketball from the veterans on the team especially Tory Walker, he taught me a lot in that year. My professional career has been interesting. It’s had a lot of ups and downs and been inconsistent but it has taught me perseverance, and to never doubt my abilities or myself one bit. It’s been a great teacher of life that I have been able to apply to in my personal life.

The Miles Basketball Minute: For Justin Cobbs The Money Doesn´t Stink But Only The Olive Oil Will in Turkey

Only few would have expected Justin Cobbs to have such an impact on the season of the Fraport Skyliners as he arrived at the end of November and was a big factor why the 2004 BBL champion went from near the bottom into the playoffs for the first time since 2011 and the Eurochallenge final 4 when all one really knew about the rookie was that he had had a stellar career at California had hit a few amazing buzzer beaters against then number one school Arizona as his fade way in the corner almost landed him in the lap of his head coach Mike Montgomery or Oregon and had been given the name a poor man´s Derrick Rose, but the Los Angeles native was the real deal in his five and half months with the Fraport Skyliners. Even if one had to force out words out of him as talking was less on the agenda, but more often the sight of him in deep thought as the NBA was swirling in his mind as it is for just about every other American player be it realistic or not. Cobbs never explicitly talked about the NBA, but when asked about it he didn´t hesitate to let it be known that that was his ultimate goal even if that wasn´t stated until the last few months in Frankfurt. Cobbs was mostly the last player exiting the locker room in the Fraport arena sporting his Los Angeles Dodgers cap displaying his general like aura that he always had on the court even if he didn´t lead his team out of the dressing room after a game as each player had their own shower time ritual and duration time. In the last few months, he would at times exit with his unforgettable swagger not far behind his teammate fellow rookie Sean Armand as they harmonized on the court. If Cobbs had any idea in the latter part of the season that he might be teammates next season with the New York native Armand in Turkey was most likely not possible, but unfortunately after being the last cut of the Charlotte Hornets in the 2014-2015 season, his path to the NBA seems even more distant now after hardly getting any minutes this summer at the NBA Summer League in Orlando. If Cobbs sensed first that his NBA route might be delayed with his sparse minutes or the acquisition with Jeremy Lin is unknown, but having NCAA champion Kemba Walker and ex Brose Baskets Bamberg point guard Brian Roberts before him must of brought him back down to earth that his NBA way through Charlotte might not be derailed, but blocked. Instead Cobbs most likely will return back to Europe and take the dough as money doesn´t stink for Cobbs, but only the olive Oil will in Turkey. According to reports Cobbs will lace up his sneakers with Turkish team Istanbul Buyuksehir Belediyesi (Turkey-TBL) and be teammates with Sean Armand once again.

Marquez welcome back to Germany. What has been your response to the shocking news today that Indiana Pacer Chris Copeland was stabbed outside a New York club. Does this make you think twice about the next time your out on the town?

I heard about that today. Something like this doesn´t make me think twice about it. Things like this always happen. You just have to be careful about your surroundings.

Last weekend there was violence in Turkey as a soccer team was shot at when they were in their bus and a few weeks ago Turkish fans caused havoc in the O2 arena in Berlin causing the game to start a hour later. What has been your experience of hardcore fans in Israel this season?

My experiences in Israel have been positive this season. Fans there are very passonite about basketball. Our fans support us very good. I haven´t experienced anything crazy this season in Israel.

Lorenzo thanks for talking to German Hoops. You recently signed in Israel with Ramat Hasharon. You are turning 32 years in May. I thought that you had retired with all the stuff going on in the States with Basketball Wives?

Yes that is true I had much going on in the States and took a year off to support my wife on her show Basketball Wives L.A. I really noticed in the last year that I had missed the game of basketball and wanted to come back again.

How did you come about getting this job in Israel? I heard you had offers from BBL teams like the Eisbaeren Bremerhaven?

Yes I had some offers from German BBL teams, but they were a bit hesitant about what I could do after being away from the game so long. Many teams didn´t want to take a chance on me but Ramat Hasharon did and I am thankful they did. I have to prove myself all over again, but don´t be surprised if you see me in Germany again next season.

You are playing in the second division in Israel. A few years ago you played in their first division with Maccabi Ashdod. What is the biggest difference between both leagues?

There are fewer imports allowed in the second league. The game is more up and down in this league while the first league is more like the BBL. There are also less big men in the second league.

The basketball world will miss Nate Fox (206-F/C-77, college: Maine)! R.I.P Nate Fox (206-F/C-77, college: Maine)

Not much. Bamberg was always a very tough place to play at. My nicest memories was always playing against my ex teammate Anton Gavel who was my teammate at Giessen. We always had fun battles.

German Hoops spoke to Kyle Hines before the Euroleague game against Alba Berlin.

Kyle welcome back to Berlin. In the 2010-2011 season you played games here as well beating Alba Berlin in the finals. What distinct memories do you have of that season and playing in the O2 arena?

Thanks Miles. There is always a great atmosphere in the O” arena in Berlin. I have seen all the great arena´s in Europe and I have to say that the O2 arena in Berlin is one of the best looking that I have played in Europe. Alba Berlin have great fans and I remember how well they support their team.

You return back to Berlin after playing there in the 2010- 2011 regular season and playoffs with Bamberg. What kind of game can we expect.

It will be a tough game for us. Alba Berlin play very aggressive and like to speed up the game. I am sure that they will be ready for us and give us their physical game. They had that big win against the San Antonio Spurs and started well into the season and have confidence. We are coming off a loss to Kuban and we want to get back on the winning track and give a good showing.
