Georg Beyschlag Powers FC Bayern Munich 2 Past The Fraport Skyliners Juniors 64-59

One of the main attractions in any German football city is when the big mighty FC Bayern Munich comes to town and for years and years and years the Red was always in Niederrad a close hop over the Main river playing 45 times against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga since 1965, but since 2011 a second FC Bayern Munich has crossed over into Frankfurt to Hoechst as the basketball department finally was back in the first league and has been battling the Fraport Skyliners for years with the Bavarian team getting the last laugh on most occasions. However this season a third FC Bayern Munich club will make their first appearance to Frankfurt with their farm team as they came to the Nordwest center where the Fraport Skyliners Juniors have their home residence to duel on a rare Friday evening. Even if an Uli Hoeness had some how gotten lost or by mistake made his way into the smug BCM gym or assistant coach Demond Greene had let some of his contacts go to work and urged some of his old German national team teammates to watch the game, the main title of this game could only be one “Kids”. The Pro B is obviously a league that develops many young players, but very rarely do you see two teams like the Fraport Skyliners Juniors and FC Bayern Munich 2 sprout so much youthfulness as if the fountain youth was situated in the corner of the arena as both clubs have an average age of 18 years on their respective rosters. Another amazing thing about this clash of the youth was that neither team had an American import which is very rare, but FC Bayern Munich 2 did have enough support from other European countries to help improve their respectable 4-1 record while the Fraport Skyliners Juniors were reeling a bit trying to get back on the winning track boasting a tiresome 2-4 record having lost four of their last five games. The game was a tale of two halves as the Fraport Skyliners Juniors controlled the first half, but let the game slip away as FC Bayern Munich 2 roared back in the second half getting special energy from Karim Jallow and Georg Beyschlag defeating the Fraport Skyliners Juniors 64-59. After the fifth loss of the season, there was no discouragement from team elder statesman with 24 years German Tim Oldenburg who was back from an injury and was hopeful for the future of the young team. “It felt good to be back. It is all still a bit slow, but all is good. We have a very young team, but have Travis Thompson back and I feel that we still have the same quality from last season so all is good”, smiled Tim Oldenburg. The Fraport Skyliners Juniors continue to have massive problems executing and hitting balls and their 26 turnovers defined an ever growing problem with taking care of the ball. “It didn´t matter what we did today, we couldn´t hit shots. We let them play their game in the third quarter in which they got easy baskets off our turnovers. Munich is a young team and it can be hard to get out of the hole, but we let them way too easily”, stressed Tim Oldenburg. FC Bayern Munich 2 like Frankfurt had a horrible offense game, but stepped it up on the defensive end a tic more than Frankfurt. “We had no rhythm on offense missing easy lay ups, free throws and having too many turnovers. We won this game with good defense”, stressed assistant coach Demond Greene.

FC Bayern Munich jumped on the Fraport Skyliners Juniors rapidly as they took advantage on their first four possession not being executed and going on a 4-0 lead as Germany 19 years old Luca Maximilian Burkhart and Georg Beyschlag produced buckets. However Frankfurt then stepped up their defensive on ball pressure racing out on a 14-2 run to totally turn the game around to lead 14-6. German big man Armin Trtovac was back in the lineup after missing all of last season with a foot injury scoring the first two buckets. Frankfurt was also fortified on offense by buckets from Konstantin Schubert, a Niklas Pons trey, Cosmo Gruehn lay in and Garai Zeeb lay in. FC Bayern Munich got a key three pointer from Ivo Garic at the end, but still trailed Frankfurt 17-10. “Frankfurt did a good job coming back on defense using a good full court press and breaking plays. Zeeb did a good job controlling the game always finding his teammates as well as finishing and Can Akbayir made a big impact on defense with his good ball screen defense”, stated Fraport Skyliner Mike Morrison. The Fraport Skyliners Juniors were shooting 42% from the field and 57% from outside while FC Bayern Munich 2 was hooting 20% from the field and 20% from outside. Frankfurt had the 13-7 rebound edge, but seven turnovers while FC Bayern Munich had six turnovers.

In the second quarter the Fraport Skyliners Juniors were able to extend their lead to as much as 12 points, only to witness FC Bayern Munich 2 come back and trail only by five points at the break. It was actually FC Bayern Munich 2 like in the first quarter that got all over the Fraport Skyliners Juniors as Bosnian Amar Gegic led his team on a brutal 6-0 run with a left hand lay in and three pointer to cut the Frankfurt lead to 17-16. However the Fraport Skyliners Juniors found some massive rhythm on offense breaking out on a 15-4 run to extend their lead to 32-20. In the run, Frankfurt got solid support from many players as ex TV Langen guard Niklas Pons nailed a trey, 16 year old Isaac Bonga hit his first bucket on the fast break with almost 15 minutes having been played, Schubert scored on the fast break and Can Akbayir snuck inside for the lay in. The Frankfurt offense was flowing and on defense they continued to supply harsh on ball defense forcing turnovers and tough shots. However basketball remains to be a game of runs as FC Bayern Munich 2 retaliated closing out the second quarter going on a 9-2 run to cut the Frankfurt lead to 34-29. In the run it was 19 year old  Karim Jallow who played 11 BBL games for FC Bayern Munich last season powered his team to seven points as he was all over the court on both ends as he made a lay up, made three free throws and threw down a hard one handed dunk on the fast break. 26 year old German Tobias Korndoerfer who played 105 Pro B games with Ehingen and Breitengussbach also scored inside. Zeeb scored two free throws to withhold the Frankfurt lead. 16 year old German Isaac Bonga had a woeful first half coughing up the ball at a high rate and only had two points, but Frankfurt still had the lead. “It was a back and forth game and basketball is a game of runs, but Munich is a tough team. We all know that Bonga can play. He had some tough turnovers, but he is a tough kid. He struggled on offense, but made some big plays on defense and they couldn´t convert on his turnovers. He will be ok”, added Florida native Mike Morrison. The Fraport Skyliners Juniors were shooting 45% from the field and 33% from the three point line while FC Bayern Munich was shooting 36% from the field and 44% from the three point line. Frankfurt had the 17-11 rebound edge, but had 16 turnovers while Munich had 14 turnovers.

The third quarter was very tight which had four lead changes and the Fraport Skyliners Juniors still had the slim 48-46 advantage after three quarters. FC Bayern Munich 2 kept up their trend of starting off each quarter strong getting into the third quarter ripping Frankfurt with a 11-0 run to retake the lead 40-36. In the run, it continued to be Karim Jallow who kept his offensive momentum from the latter part of the second quarter and scored four points. Burkhart scored on transition and 19 year old Georg Beyschlag who played his first Pro B game with age 16 with Nordlingen displayed his offensive ability hitting a runner and staying aggressive sneaking inside. Once again the game showed that basketball is a game of runs as Frankfurt escaped out on a 7-0 run to recapture the lead 41-40. In the run, it was 18 year old Schubert scoring twice inside and with one bucket wanting to dunk, but left to early from the ground, but somehow got the ball high off the glass and Tim Oldenburg made a lay in after getting the no look pass from Zeeb. Dejan Kovacevic and Zeeb then traded buckets as Frankfurt held the lead at 43-42. FC Bayern Munich then tied the game two more times by 23 year old Nemanja Markovic and 17 year old Nelson Weidemann, but Schubert hit free throws to give Frankfurt the 48-46 lead. “Jallow was huge for them. He is hard to stop and when he makes a few lay ins, it gets him even more hungry for more”, warned Tim Oldenburg. “We defended very well and many of our points came from our defense where we got easy baskets. Jallow carried us early and did a good job”, added Demond Greene. The Fraport Skyliners Juniors were shooting 38% from the field and 20% from the parking lot while FC Bayern Munich was shooting 38% from the field and 42% from the parking lot. Frankfurt had the 26-25 rebound advantage and both teams had 21 turnovers a piece.

In the fourth quarter, FC Bayern Munich 2 jumped all over the Fraport Skylkiners Juniors again this time going on a fierce 12-4 run to win back the lead 58-52. Like in the third quarter, it was Beyschlag again who got his team going nailing a big trey to start the run and get the lead back 49-48 and they would never trail again. FC Bayern Munich 2 also got solid execution from Gegic who scored inside twice and Kovacevic once while Weidemann dropped a trey. Frankfurt continued to make extreme mistakes as their turnover disease in the game continued to grow. Then Gruehn got a big bucket inside to cut the opponents lead to 58-54, but with a few minutes to play Beyschlag put the final dagger into the hearts of Frankfurt with a lethal step back jumper and free throws as Frankfurt trailed 62-55. With time slowly running out, Schubert hit free throws, but Gegic countered with a lay in and Bonga closed out the game with a jumper finishing with eight points and an unbelievable 11 turnovers. “We did a good job taking Beyschlag out of the game in the first half, but couldn´t get him under control in the second half. He took over the game in the second half. It takes a little time for young guys to get used to the Pro B level. Bonga could do what he wanted in the Regionaliga, but the game is faster here. He was thinking a bit too much instead of letting the game come to him”, stressed Tim Oldenburg. “Frankfurt didn´t have their full lineup, but we defended well. We did a good job limiting Isaac Bonga who wasn´t in the game. Beyschlag continued to be key in the fourth quarter making key baskets”, stated Demond Greene. FC Bayern Munich 2 was led by Georg Beyschlag with 15 points and Amar Gegic added 14 points. The Fraport Skyliners Juniors were led by Konstantin Schubert with 16 points. FC Bayern Munich was shooting 41% from the field and 31% from outside while the Fraport Skyliners Juniors were shooting 36% from the field and 13% from outside. Frankfurt won the rebound battle 35-32, but had 26 turnovers while FC Bayern Munich coughed up the ball 24 times.
