He spoke to German Hoops before the big game with FC Bayern Munich.

Ken thanks for talking to German Hoops One last splash of nice autumn weather in Germany this weekend. Has the Bayreuth weather the last two months been similar to what you have in New York this time of year or has it already been colder for your taste?

Yea the weather here has been very similar to what I’ve had back in New York. I can deal with any kind of weather after going through a winter in Finland. So it’s not to bad for me now.

At the start of the week medi Bayreuth basketball team made the national sports news filling almost every online and print outlet with two players facing disciplinary action after an altercation in a club. How hast the state of the team been this week?

The state of the team has been great. We are professionals and whatever happens outside the gym happens outside the gym and we don’t bring that stuff on the court. Whatever happened has been dealt with and now we’re getting ready for this next game.

Usually after a big win the team continues to focus and get ready for the next opponent, but this week that news story kind of got in the way. Do you think it effected the preparation for FC Bayern Munich in any way?

Not one bit. It didn’t have any effect on our preparation. We did exactly what we always do and let our coach prepare us the way we need to be.

How excited are you to playing against Germany´s most famous sports name? Is this the most famous professional basketball team that you will have played against in your professional career?

They’re a good team and It’s a good platform to play on definitely the biggest team I’ve played against after Berlin, but at the end of the day we can’t get caught up in that. We have to play basketball.

There is that famous German sports saying “Zieht den Bayern die Leder Hosen aus” and it comes from the soccer area. Have you ever heard of it?

I have never heard that saying.

In Bavaria a traditional apparel of clothing is wearing leather pants and before a big game the opponents fans say undress the Bayern leather pants as a gesture to beat them. Would you ever try to wear something like that since it is a traditional Bavarian item of clothing and you are living in Bavaria.

I think I’m a little bit to skinny to be wearing leather pants. (Laughs)

How focused is the team in playing FC Bayern Munich? Is this a game where you go in as having nothing to lose? Could that give the team added strength without even knowing it?

I think we are very focused. We know they are a very good team but at the end of the day we are going try our hardest to win. We are going play our hardest and do what we know how to do.

How big is the injury to ex NBA player Travis Leslie? The team will added possibly an NBA cut. Until that new player does come how do you want to compensate that loss?

Losing Trav is a big hit. He could do a lot of good things for us. Now with a new guy coming in it’ll be good to have someone fill that space of Trav being out. I know whoever it is will be a good fit for us and make our team better. I remember John Flowers from college. High intensity player. That’s always a good look when you play with high energy.

How excited are to be playing against a guy like Deon Thompson who has surfaced the NBA and played at well known school North Carolina. Do you remember him playing at NC?

To be honest I’ve heard the name before, but I don’t know him. Just like he most likely wouldn’t know me. I’m sure I can speak for both of us when I say it’s just another matchup.

FC Bayern Munich played shortly before the game Euroleague. Do believe the extra week rest will be an advantage for medi Bayreuth and what will be key in getting the win?

Rest can be good for us but I think the real key is going to be us leaving our heart on the court. Everything we have had got to be on the court tomorrow.

Thanks Ken for the chat.
