Ken congrats on the 82-77 victory against MBC. This was a game of the two door mats of the league. Did you know before the game started that it would be such an ugly game?
Thank you. I wouldn’t say “Door Mats” of the league. We both got off to rough starts yes, but its still early in the season. Yesterday I think we did exactly what we wanted to do in the game and that is win. Ugly or not as long as we won I’m happy.
You said in the pre-game interview that medi Bayreuth would be ready and you were. How relieved are you that the team finally got their first win of the season?
I’m very happy that we got our first win but I’m definitely not satisfied. I want to win more.
After losing a tight game in Oldenburg what was the difference against MBC that the team was able to keep their nerves and not too fold?
We were able to stay poised. We didn’t let them rattle us. They hit some big shots at the end but we were able to stay within ourselves and get the job done.
Medi Bayreuth kept MBC to 77 points and was the lowest amount of points let up this season. What adjustments and improvements did the team make in the last week to correct their mistakes?
The biggest adjustment was just like I said before the game. We played aggressive and with HEART. That’s what we have to bring to every game.
How much of a factor was the deeper bench of medi Bayreuth? You got big production from experienced German Steve Wachalski?
Steve played big for us. We all know he can come up big for us all the time. Everyone on our team contributed from the Starting 5 all the way down to the last man on our bench. That was really big for us. Having guys that can make plays for us helps us out tremendously.
The three guards Xavier, Odum and Leslie combined for 14 assists. How valuable is it having three good creators like them on the floor at all times and how do their play stimulate the play of the team?
There is always a threat with them. They can make plays for everybody.
You had your break out game with 20 points and 14 rebounds. Did you eat something special today and how good were you feeling and confident when you stepped on the court?
It was a good game for me. Good for my confidence I just felt like I needed to show the team that I wanted to win so badly and I’m willing to do whatever it takes. Whatever the team needs I’m willing to do.
In your first three games you were 3/11 from outside and tonight 3/5. Are you starting to feel more comfortable shooting the three now in the BBL?
Shooting is going get better. 6/16 in my book still is awful so that has to get better but that will come. Being comfortable definitely helps me as far as shooting goes.that’s coming along as well.
It never gets any easier as now medi Bayreuth will play against might FC Bayern Munich. How excited are you to play one of the top teams in Germany and what will be key for getting the win?
Munich is a great team with a lot of history but just as we do for any game we will prepare during the week and we have to bring it all when we step on the court.
What is your take on Lamar Odum and how he has been handled by the press? How do you feel he will be remembered as an NBA player?
The Lamar Odum situation is crazy Cant really say much because I don’t know everything about whats going on. I just hope he gets the help that he needs and that he gets well.
Thanks Ken for the chat.
