Jack Eggleston (Bayer Giants Leverkusen) Goettingen Stayed Home On Me Most Of The Game, Which Made It Tough To Get Going Offensively

A tough 89-64 loss to number one team BG Goettingen at home. When you look at the half scoring one could say that Leverkusen played well for 20 minutes, but in between lost some focus in the second and third quarter. Why weren´t you able to play better for 40 minutes?

I thought we played a decent first quarter, but Goettingen tightened up defensively after that. They are a very talented team with a lot of depth and it was tough for us to keep up.

BG Goettingen had a comfortable 12 point lead at half time thanks to a strong second quarter outscoring Leverkusen 23-9. What adjustments did BG Goettingen seem to make in the second quarter and why wasn´t Leverkusen able to stay with the 2010 Eurochallenge winner?

The biggest adjustment they made was to take us out of our ball screen game. They pretty effectively shut down that part of our offense and made it difficult for us to operate.

BG Goettingen ran away with the game in the third quarter getting such a big lead being able to coast into the fourth quarter and easily get the win. What was the biggest strength of BG Goettingen on this night?

Their biggest strengths are their depth and balance. They have a ten man rotation and all of those guys can score in a different number of ways. It makes it tough to guard, especially when we’re struggling with some injuries.

BG Goettingen doesn´t really have one superstar, but many guys that can score and the club understands how to spread out the scoring and time management by the head coach is also a strong point. Is BG Goettingen the number one favorite to move up to the Beko BBL at this point?

Yes I’d say they’re definitely the favorite at this point. You never know what could happen in the playoffs, but they are the strongest team we’ve played.

You had a good rebounding day, but scored only eight points and limited you too nine shots. How much credit do you give BG Goettingen for doing a pretty good job on you? Was what the defense was giving you limiting your shot selection?

It’s somewhat frustrating and flattering at the same time when a defense really makes the effort to limit your touches like Goettingen did last night. I felt like they stayed home on me most of the game, which made it tough to get going offensively.

The Bayer Giants Leverkusen don´t have long to rest as in 48 hours as you play in Ehingen in 48 hours. How do you like playing two games on the weekend? Will you rest more and sleep or will you be keeping your body active?

I’m used to playing two games in a weekend because in college we would play Friday and Saturday nights during conference season. I try to get as much rest as I can while also making sure I stretch a lot and stay hydrated.

Leverkusen lost at home against Ehingen 80-68 last October as you were out with an injury and at that time it was the sixth loss in a row for Leverkusen. What do you remember from that game?

Honestly I don’t remember too much of that one. All those games where I was out with injury tend to blend together in my mind.

What kind of game can we await and will it be keeping Americans Matthews and Rhode in check half the rent who combined for 40 points in that win?

They are both talented players so we will have to do everything we can to make sure neither one gets any easy looks.

How disappointed are you that Indiana Pacer Lance Stephenson wasn´t added to the 2014 Allstar roster? In a German newspaper article today, it was stated that his charachter might have kept him off the roster? His stats and four triple doubles don´t lie though.

I’m not disappointed at all. We in Indiana know what a gem we have in Lance Stephenson. If others around the league and the country can’t recognize that, it’s their problem. And selfishly I hope that not being an All Star could keep him from asking for too much money this summer when we try to re-sign him.

What was your favorite NBA allstar game moment as a kid?

The All-Star game was always late on a school night for me so I didn’t get to watch too much of it as a kid. I do vividly remember Jason Richardson winning the dunk contest with his off the backboard between the legs dunk.

What surprises do you expect at the 2014 NBA Allstar game?

I can’t say that I expect too many if any surprises from the All-Star game this year. Guys are just out there trying to have some fun and not get hurt.

What was the last DVD movie that you saw?

I recently watched Groundhog Day.

Thanks Jack for the chat.
