Thanks for talking to eurobasket John. The summer came and flew by. You spent some time in Asia. How was that experience for you and what did you learn there that you never had known before?
Yea I got to spend some time in Taiwan and the Phillipenes and it was a great experience. It was my first time in both of those countries and got to spend some time there and see Manilla and saw some great things that made me smile and at the same time saw some things that made me humble as well. It was a great time and I hope to go back again some day.
After two years in the Beko BBL, you return back to the PRO A hwere you also have played. How disappointed are you that you left TBB Trier? Was it a departure from both sides or how was this chapter ended?
To be honest it didn’t dissapoint me at all, It is a business and both parties needed a change and I loved the city of Trier and people I came across but I didn’t feel comfortable at all there anymore in the second year for various reasons but I appreciate and thank the organization for giving me a chance back to the BBL but trust me the memories are in the back of my head and I’m ready for a fresh start in Chemnitz.
What experience and player will you never forget from your two years at TBB Trier?
I will miss everyone in a way but I remember not having my license that first year and without maik Zaibres being my personal driver it would have been a lot worse. But all my teammates were special in a funny kind of way and the coaches as well.
The PRO A has gotten stronger over the years. How much different is this league from the Beko BBL?
Well for one from my personal experience without sounding disrespectful the main difference is the athleticism and strength. You also don’t have the two German on the court rule and that is huge for strategic purposes.
BV Chemnitz has three Americans. How will Alex Jones and Donald Lawson help the team the most?
Alex and Donald are both great players. Donald does a lot of little things that don’t show up on the stat sheet and provides great leadership and we will need him to score to be successful and as far Alex we need him to provide a spark off the bench and play big for us in a lot of ways.
At TBB Trier you were a spark off the bench that did a little bit of everything. What will your role be like exactly with BV Chemnitz?
My role here is completely different than in Trier. In Chemnitz I have to provide more leadership and providing points and other intangibles which I am excited to do again.
Your playing for a very young coach with Felix Schreier. What is his biggest strength behind the bench and will you be a type of assistant coach on the floor?
Playing for Felix has been great so far with the exception of the running on the track lol… But he is a great coach that coaches in detail and wants to and does improve the group of players we have. He is learning everyday like we do as players, but you would not know his age by seeing him run a practice and being a point guard back up or starter you are an extended coach on the floor at all times.
Is reaching the Beko BBL the goal of BV Chemnitz?
Well I think so reaching a higher level t any level is the ultimate goal but our job is to win games and take it one game at a time. They had success here the past couple of seasons but this is a new season and our goal is to get better each day as a team
How much potential does a Kilian Leuterirtz have and on what part of his game will you help him the most?
Killian has a lot of potential and at the end of the day like all young players it is what he does with it. It is just about getting reps and continuing to play and practice as much as possible and if anything I hope I can teach him about changing speeds, being patient and just being able to help him with learning little tricks I’ve learned along the way.
In size is Chemnitz a big upgrade to Trier. What do you like most about the former Karl Marx stadt?
So far I haven’t saw much and have spent more time outside of Chemnitz than being in Chemnitz since we were away last week in the Czech Republic. But so far it looks like a great city with lots to explore which I’ll do soon
Who would win a game in their prime the Dream team or team USA 2012?
In their prime I would have to say the dream team but not by much and in a 7 game series it would go 7. It is a toss up because team USA 2012 has some crazy athleticism but then again so did the dream team but it’s a toss up
What was the last DVD movie that you saw?
Last DVD was Life with Eddie Murphy and thanks for the interview Miles.
Thanks John for the chat.
