He spoke to German Hoops about his ex teammate Pascal Roller who recently had his farewell game and with whom he was teammates with from 2007-2009.
How much of a pleasure was it playing with Pascal and having him as teammate?
Pascal was a great leader in all aspects, on and off the court, he led by example. He is the wise man, never getting upset. Always being calm helped everyone around him be calm. It was a great pleasure to play with someone like him. I learned a lot.
You were roommates with him for a time on road trips. What is your fondest memory of him when you two were alone spending time together?
I remember we were speaking about basketball, I was going through a difficult time with the shooting and asked him for advice, and he told me, sometimes he likes when that happens, because the opponents start to forget about him, and the next game it creates more opportunities. The very next game I had a big game mainly because he told me to stay confident and keep shooting.
Was there a more reliable shot in the game of basketball then his jumper? Talk about his great shot and how clutch he was?
Pascal was money. His shot was like a mechanical machine set on the same setting for each time he shoots. Thats how I would describe his shot. I think my greatest memory is when every game we would be running on the fast break and he would sprint while dribbling, and suddenly stop at the three point line, and shoot, while none expected it because it was a fast break and he was sprinting a second ago with the ball. I am sure people noticed that his foot was always one or maybe at the most 2 centimeters from the line. Like a perfectionist.
If you take your shoush/swish shot and combine it with his reliable jumper what do you have?
We would have to rename him Pascal Swisher! Lol.
Talk about that last shot against Bonn game 5 in 2008 where he missed the layup?
This shot can happen to anyone, Pascal was the guy who had to take the last shot, good or bad, that is how it is supposed to be. He was the leader of this team, after that, it is bad luck. It wasn’t an easy shot, but I think he was surprised to get this kind of shot as a game winning shot. Either way, the game should of been won before that.
When you combine the organization skyliners and Pascal Roller to what other things could you compare the importance(like for example Larry bird/Celtics back in day)
Kobe and Shaq. When you see one guys name, you automatically think of the other. In this case, you say Skyliners, you think Pascal and vice versa.
How important was Pascal in locker room? What do you remember?
He was the voice of the team. He would calm people when they were upset, he would lead by example. He was a coach on the court.
How did Pascal Roller help you the best on and off the court?
He helped me mature, learn to block some negativity so it would not affect me because when you are young, you easily get caught up in negative thoughts. He helped me learn to not worry so much and put them aside.
If a movie would be made about Pascal what would you call it and what would be best storyline?
He reminds me of the character in the movie Taken. Quiet, smart, a perfectionist, and very skilled, kicked everyone’s butt in the movie. But in a Bruce Willis look.
What would you like to say from France to your friend Pascal Roller?
I want to congratulate him on a great career, and thank him for bringing so much to basketball. I will always look upon him with the highest respect. And I also want to thank him for helping me develop as a player.
Thanks Evti for the chat.
