This season he started with MBC before going to the Giessen 46ers recently. He spoke to German Hoops about the 2011 beko BBL Top 4 in Bamberg.
The Giessen 46ers now have a 16 day rest between games. Has coach Steven key given the team some days off or has it been practicing?
“Practice? We talking’ bout practice? Practice? Not a game, no not a game?” Hahaha. In all seriousness, It’s unfortunate to go so long without a game, but we need to get back to the basics. Coach has us in the gym working so that we can finish these last 5 games strong and hopefully win all 5.
Giessen has only has one win more than BBC Bayreuth and MBC. How vital will it be winning the next 2 games against BG Goettingen and Alba Berlin in a 4 day span?
BBC won last night so we have the same amount of wins. We can´t worry about what others are doing. We just have to control our own fate. We win games and we will be safe. If we don’t we will be in trouble. Every game should be played as if it was game 7 of a Championship series.
What will Giessen have to improve to get wins in the last weeks?
We have to work on being consistent and focused for 40minutes. We have to know what we are doing at all times, play within ourselves and execute what coach asks us to do.
What is your impression of the 2011 BEKO BBL Cup? Do you think that one might see a winner besides Bamberg?
Obviously Bamberg is the favorite and if I were a betting man, I would put my money on them. They have proved all year that they are the team to beat. That being said, anyone can win on any given night. My upset team would be Artland.
Braunschweig has lost the last 11 games against Frankfurt. Will the 12th game finally be there charm(3.4=12 lol)?
As I said earlier, on any given night anyone can win. Whoever plays the best will win. I would pick Frankfurt to win though if you are going to go with history
What will Braunschweig have to do besides stopping Dashaun Wood to win?
Stopping Wood is key, but I think u have to limit the other guys opportunities to beat them. Wood is about 85% of their offense and he has the ball a lot so he is going to do what he does. The key is to not let the others get theirs.
How much does the loss of Tony Skinn hurt them?
I didn’t know Skinn was injured to be honest with you. I think they will be fine. Hamilton, and Greer can more than carry the load for sure.
The Artland Dragons lost both games against Bamberg this season, but they were close. Could they use about 1000 Toby the dragon mascots in the Bamberg arena to cause havoc? lol?
This is always a fun and interesting match up becuase of the ties that exist between Flemming, Woltmann and Artland. Bamberg is getting it done this year so Artland will have their work cut out for them. A few 1000 Toby’s is never a bad thing.
Where is Bamberg vulnerable the most and how will Artland win?
I don’t see them as being that vulnerable. They can hurt you inside and outside. Their second unit would be a playoff team. They have a system and their guys buy into it. No one does things that they cannot do. Artland is a very talented team and they have to make shots, defend and execute with Koch’s game plan.
How much does your heart still beat for your ex team Artland or does it beat more for Bamberg? Will you be there on the weekend?
I Don’t think I’ll be there on the weekend. We have practice and I will enjoy some time with my baby girl. I will always have love for Artland and Bamberg. I have fond memories of both places. I’m sure this will be another epic battle.
What is your pick for Kentucky-UCONN and why?
I’m going to have to go with Uconn. I think Kemba and co will be too much for the Cats to handle.
What is your pick for the underdog game VCU-Butler?
VCU, only because Butler has been there.
What has been your sweetest experience so far with your new born Eva?
Would have to have been right after she was born. We went into the other room, cut the cord, cleaned, wrapped her up and then I had the opportunity to just hold her in my arms for about 2 hours while they were finishing up with Mom. WAS AN AWESOME EXPERIENCE. (uncle Brooks was with us as well)
Thanks MJ for the chat.
