How has your summer been? What was the coolist non basketball thing that you did this summer?

My summer has been pretty good, I’ve had a chance to get healthy as well as be around family and friends. This summer I was able to do a lot of “firsts.” I went to Las Vegas for the first time, attended my first bachelor party as well as wedding. Guess I’m officially growing up.

After winning the Eurochallenge,it seems like you are more known in the States. There were a few articles about you in New York papers about you. Is this new attention something that you feel comfortable with?

There isn’t much that makes me uncomfortable but it is nice to see that some of the media outlets back home are paying attention. They did say that they wanted to run a BBL and/or EuroCup champion article next summer so I’ve set the bar pretty high.

How did you experience the NBA finals Boston-Los Angeles? Did the better team win?

There’s a ton of tradition in that rivalry and I’m glad I could witness a part of history. I do think the better team won and for as much negativity as Kobe gets in terms of being a team player, I think he did a good job of helping his team win besides just scoring in these finals.

How does a normal summer work out day look like for Jason Boone?

Well this summer, because of injury, I changed up my routine a little. I was in the pool a lot working on my conditioning and trying to lessen the impact on my foot/leg. But besides that and a lift I’d play 3x a week with a good crop of pros in the NYC area.

What is your goal this season besides winning? Can you make the next step as a player?

Well you are correct, we definitely want to continue to win games but personally I would like to take that next step and expand my game. It was unfortunate I was dealing with some injuries during the “crunchtime” of the season but I feel that I’ve done enough this summer and will continue to do enough to stay healthy and be productive.

When you look at the new BG Goettingen roster what are your thoughts. It seems like coach John Patrick has built another potential strong team.

It’s always exciting and rewarding to get a chance to repeat success with a new group of guys. I’m very eager to get out there and start working out with the new squad. The same coach trusts us to work hard over the summer is the same way the returners trust him to go out and recruit quality players that want to work hard and win.

Even though Jermaine Raffinfton is the same age as you, you have more BBL expereince. Do you see yourself as a mentor for him?

As I said before I’m growing up…if this was college I’d be a senior by now and although 4 years overseas doesn’t seem that long, there are always going to be guys younger/less experienced coming over that need guidance. So hopefully I can continue to learn and teach while being a great teammate.

What do you know about Jermaine Raffington and how potent will the center duo Boone/Raffinton be?

I’m not too familiar with him but I’ve had a chance to speak to some of my teammates about him and I’m excited to play with such a versatile player. Practicing against someone like Jermaine is going to be a great chance to improve my game everyday.

Bailey/Dale could be quite an intriging guard tandem. Can Dale make an impact in the BEKO BBL right away?

Dale and I actually played on the same summerleague team a few years back although we were trying to figure out if we were ever both there at the same time. But he is definitely the kind of player that is going to make an immediate impact. I’m very excited for his arrival as well as having Kyle back and watching that tandem go to work.

Were you surprised that Chris Oliver left? How difficult will it be replacing him?

Surprised? No. I know he loved the fans and the city but I had a feeling he wanted a fresh start somewhere else. I think Tuebingen will be a good fit for him and I’ve already marked that game on my calander. It’s always difficult to replace a player like him but he and Dwayne Anderson had a ton of great battles in practice so if the BBL doesn’t make that a TV game then I need to speak to whoever is in charge. Just kidding.

Will the pressure of making the playoffs and the Eurochallenge win last season be the biggest pressure for the team this season?

Yes, but that’s a good thing. We don’t like to set huge goals like winning the championship or making the playoffs, but rather smaller goals that will get us there. But in the back of our minds we all want to duplicate the succcess we’ve had and improve on it.

How well will the Miami Heat do with Lebron James?

I would have bet my salary that this question was going to be in the interview. I’ll tell you what I’ve told everyone else, it makes a difference when you play with people you genuienly like, I think part of our teams success in recent seasons has been guys like Ben Jacobson bringing the team together as friends off the court. With that said, if LeBron Bosh and Wade are really as good of friends as it seems I think they are going to be a tough team to beat. I still think the Lakers have one more in them though.

Will Shaq bring the Boston Celtics back into the NBA final?

No, I love Shaq, but hate Boston sports. I’m from New York. I read somewhere that Boston is going have water bottles and oxygen tanks on the sidelines because they are so old. There aren’t too many that can keep up with Rondo to begin with and definitely none on Boston now.

What was the last DVD that you saw?

I just watched Clash of The Titans on a plane ride…thought it was ehh okay. Would have been disappointed if I paid for the movie ticket or DVD. Just Wright is now available on DVD though so that’ll be the next one.

Thanks Jason for the chat!
