Can The Fraport Skyliners Make History In Intercontinental Cup Sunday As Germany´s Only Two Time International Title Winner?

Usually titles are finalized in May and June of each year while September is the month where clubs are putting their final touches on the rosters, new American rookies are still getting acquainted with the gear stick in their team cars and in Skyliner country key players being signed late as they have demonstrated in the last three years with guys like ex NBA player Andrew Rautins, Jordan Theodore and new point guard Markel Starks being brought in as prices were reduced. However this season, the Fraport Skyliners have the big chance to reel in the club´s fourth title after the 2000 BBL cup, 2004 BBL League title and 2016 Fiba Europe Cup win with the 2016 Intercontinental cup. If Fraport Skyliner captain Quantez Robertson made any wishes on New Year 2016 about winning the Fiba Europe Cup is unknown, but if someone had told him he might win two titles in 2016, he probably would have screeched “sayyyyyy what”? But sometimes three is a charm as the Fraport Skyliners snuck in through the back door as originally they had no right playing the INtercontinetal cup, but only snuck in because CSKA Moscow and Galatasaray Istanbul were banned from the Fiba from playing this game which is known as the world title as it pits the Euroleague winner against the South American champion. The Fraport Skyliners will clash against South America champion Guaros de Lara. This Intercontinental cup  may not have much prestige, but a title is a title and they don´t necessarily grow on trees for an organization like the Fraport Skyliners so if one can be the beneficiary of a rift between the Fiba and CSKA Moscow and Galatasaray Istanbul, then one takes advantage of the early Christmas gift. If the Fraport Skyliners win, they will be the first team with 2 international titles as the only other German clubs with international titles are Alba Berlin, Mitteldeutscher BC and BGGoettingen with one each.

Can Gordon Herbert Pull Out Another Jordan Theodore From His Pocket To Guarantee Champions League Success For Frankfurt This Season?

Summer is slowly moving on as Fraport Skyliner fans are still trying to digest the departures of players like Johannes Voigtmann, Danilo Barthel and Jordan Theodore, but at the same time having the amazing 2015-2016 Fiba Cup title win in the back of their minds and looking ahead to this season as the 2004 Beko BBL champion Fraport Skyliners will take part in the new competition Champions Cup. There hasn´t been much buzz with new player signings yet for the Fraport Skyliners so the 2016-2017 Champions Cup draw was a refreshing way to dream and predict which teams could be drawn for Frankfurt during the slow and boring draw procedure. As if the basketball God had secretly had his hand in the pot, the Fraport Skyliners got a date with ex Skyliner Jordan Theodore who was one of the key figures for the success of the team last season and will return back to Frankfurt with his new team Banvit of Turkey where he surely will be greeted with a massive ovation. The Fraport Skyliners also drew Aris of Greece, CEZ Nymburk of the Czech Republic, Helios Suns of Slovenia and AS Monaco. Two more teams will be added, but won´t be known until a future date when the qualifying results are in.

Philip Scrubb Is Leading The Fraport Skyliners To 91-79 Win Over Royal Hali Gaziantep

Hearing these random numbers of 32, 28,30,24,26,24 might be an option playing the Lotto on a boring afternoon when no basketball is on TV or when you were a child hearing a combination of these numbers during a pick up kid´s football game could also happen. When I look back at my childhood when my family would travel over Christmas to Boca Raton, Florida, I can remember countless football games on the beach with my friend David from New York city where he was dreaming of being a Joe Montana getting away from a cowboy and I had Dwight Clark dancing in my head making the famous catch in the back of the end zone beating the Dallas Cowboys 27-26 reaching the 49ers first Superbowl. Before every call certain numbers would be called before David would yell hut hut and if the numbers 32,28,30,24,26,24 were ever called is unknown, but one thing is for sure, for fanatic Fraport Skyliner fans these numbers were the big scoring games of Andrew Rautins when he played for Frankfurt in the 2012-2013 season and all resulted in wins. Rautins was signed for one season, but the ex NBA player who played 5 NBA games for the New York Knicks played his last game on December 29th 2013 in a Frankfurt jersey against SC Rasta Vechta where he steered 10 points to the 70-67 victory before he was injured for the rest of the season. It would be unfair to rank a Rautins with the best that ever played for a Skyliners jersey simply because he only played 15 games, but in the short time he was there, he had some big games that reminded one of guys like Chris Williams and Dashaun Wood and what they were capable of doing. Rautins who played at Syracuse from 2005-2010 reaching the NCAA Sweet 16 and played at the 2010 World Championships also played in Spain for Lucentum Alicante, the D-league with Tulsa and last season with Openjobmetis Varese (Italy-Serie A) playing 28 games averaging 12.0ppg, 4.6rpg, 2.3apg, 1.0spg, FGP: 32.9%, 3PT: 39.5%, FT: 81.4%. This season he is playing with Royal Hali Gaziantep (Turkey-BSL) averaging 13,9ppg, 2,9rpg and 2,7apg in the Turkish league and in Europe Cup play averaging 15,5ppg, 4,2rpg and 3,0apg while shooting 46,5% from the parking lot. He may be classified mostly as a shooter, but he is an underrated passer and has a brilliant basketball IQ. It was more than two years since, the Canadian/American last tasted the rims in the Fraport arena and was back again wanting revenge for the 71-66 loss against Frankfurt in his living room, but couldn´t get it as ex teammate Quantez Robertson did a super job almost blanking him off the score board as the Fraport Skyliners defeated Royal Hali Gaziantep 91-79 extending their current winning streak to 9 games and to 11 in Europe Cup play and holding Rautins to afoot note of 3 points. If it hadn´t been for ex NBA player Jawad Williams who took the brunt of the production on his shoulder scoring 21 points, the Turkish team would have gone home losing by 30. After the loss, Rautins pulled an NBA, not talking, but his ex teammate and head coach did. “Rautins wasn´t happy that he fouled out so early. He was very motivated to play here again, but one can´t always have a great comeback. He was so hyped up and wanted to win very badly and play well, but it just wasn´t his day”, expressed ex Fraport Skyliner Anthony King who played 169 Beko BBL games. Fraport Skyliners head coach Gordon Herbert who always lauding the great player in Aaron Doornekamp would probably live in an igloo for a week if he had to just to get Rautins back in Frankfurt was pleased with how his team took the Canadian out of the game. “It was key taking him out of game. Quantez Robertson did a good job on him and we were lucky that he got in foul problems. He had been on a very hot streak as of late, but couldn´t find his rhythm against us”, stated Gordon Herbert.

Congrats on the 2012 Euroleague win against CSKA Moscow. What kind of feeling is it?

It is a great feeling winning with a great group of guys. We worked hard all season long and took the chance. Nothing was handed to us on this weekend. We earned the win.

What were your first thoughts as the siren sounded?

My first feeling was unreal. It was so hard to believe what we had just done coming back from 18 points in the second half.

With 18 points down, how big was the belief that Olympiakos S.F.P. Pireus could come back?

We showed our character in this comeback. So often this season, we have fought against adverse conditions, but we never gave up and always continued to fight.
