Braydon Hobbs (Giessen 46ers) I Wanted To Play With Giessen Because Of How They Carried Themselves On The Court

Braydon Hobbs is a 24 year old 196cm point guard that just completed his third professional season and first in Germany with rent4office Nuernberg (Germany-ProA) where he averaged 11,9ppg, 4.1rpg, Assists-4(5.9apg), Steals-2(1.9spg), FGP: 55.8%, 3PT: 40.8%, FT: 82.4% . He started his basketball career in 2008 with Bellarmine (NCAA2) playing a total of 133 games. He turned professional in 2012 and played for Caceres Basket (Spain-LEB Gold, starting five): 35 games: 7.1ppg, 2.8rpg, 1.9apg, 1.6spg, FGP: 41.9%, 3PT: 34.7%, FT: 87.9%. In 2013-2014 he played for Alba Fehervar (Hungary-A Division, starting five): Eurocup: 10 games: 11.9ppg, 3.1rpg, 3.6apg, 1.7spg, FGP: 40.4%, 3PT: 52.3%; Hungarian League: 32 games: 9.1ppg, 4.2rpg, 3.4apg, Steals-2(2.3spg), FGP: 52.8%, 3PT: 32.7%, FT: 72.7%. He also played three summers professionally in Australia. He spoke to German Hoops after signing with the Giessen 46ers for the 2015-2016 season.

Braydon thanks for talking to German Hoops again. You are playing your third summer in the last four in Australia. What makes you keep coming back down under?

I keep coming back here to Australia because the country is awesome. I can stay in shape by doing this as well. It’s a fun get away and I enjoy playing year around.

How do you feel has your time in Australia helped your game most in the last summers which you might not necessarily have had in the States doing the normal work out grind?

I think playing here during the summers has kept me in good shape and it is more of a laid back league but I can get into the gym any time I want to work on my game. It keeps me playing competitive competition as well which I think helps.

Lorne Merthie(I Play Every Game Like It´s My Last)

Lorne Merthie is a 25 year old 187cm guard from Sanford, Florida that finished his college basketball career at Campbell(NCAA)in 2012. He played a total of 106 NCAA games and as a senior played 23 games: 8.4ppg, 2.0rpg, 2.0apg, FGP: 33.3%, 3PT: 39.4%, FT: 79.3%. He recently played as a professional for South Florida Spartans (CBL). He spoke to German Hoops about basketball.

Lorne thanks for talking some time to talk to German Hoops. Where are you at the moment and what is your main basketball goal this summer?

At this moment I’m currently working and working out & playing in Men’s league. My main goal this summer is to sign a contract and play overseas.

After graduating from Campbell(NCAA) in 2012, you did not get a professional basketball job until the South Florida Spartans (CBL) last year. How rough were the last years always following your dream, but not being where you wanted to be?

It was rough the first couple of years not landing a job after college, but I just continued working on my game and praying until the day comes and it works out.

As a player that has been looking and looking do you get a sense that there could simply be too many basketball jobs out there or haven´t you been looking well enough?

To be honest I think there are a lot of basketball jobs out there, but I feel like it’s all about who you know and being in the right situation at the right time.

Last season you played for the South Florida Spartans (CBL). What kind of experience was it playing semi pro ball?

The experience was okay, for the first year playing semi-pro ball. I feel like after playing that season. I can play on another level or overseas.

How important was it getting your feet wet again and competiting even if it was with grown men instead of boys in the NCAA?

It was real important to get my feet wet again and competiting at a high level again. It felt like old times in college.

After having this experience with the South Florida Spartans (CBL) does it give you the feeling that you can play at a higher level possibly even in Europe?

Yes!!! Most definitely. The experience playing with the Spartans was good, personally I feel like I can play at a higher level and in Europe.

What stories have you heard of European level basketball? Do you have any friends playing over in Europe?

I haven’t really heard any stories about the European level basketball. Yes I have a couple friends playing in Europe.

You played at Campbell(NCAA) from 2008-2012. You shot nearly 40% each season in college and had decent stats. Is it still a mystery to you why you didn´t get an opportunity with some team in the world?

That’s a good question, because I always ask myself that question all the time. When I came out of college, I did not have representation. I believe if I had representation that would of helped me a lot. I have been networking myself and attending camps.

How did head coach Robbie Laing help you become a better player at Campbell and prepare you best for a professional basketball career?

Coach Laing helped me become a better player on and off the court. He always pushed me to better. He showed me a lot that I didn’t know about the game. Also in regards to conducting myself in a professional manner.

How do you feel have you improved your game since coming out of school in 2012?

I have improved my game a lot since college. I improved on decision making, coming off screen and rolls and reading the defense.

If you could describe your game and as to why you could be an asset to any team what words would you come up with?

I am a playmaker, a scorer, a shooter, a good defender, and I play every game like its my last. I’m good coming off pick n roll.

Your ex teammate Trey Freeman went to ODU and had a great season there last season. What memories do you have of his game and who won a one on one in practice then?

Memories I remember having with “trey game” is that he always knew where I was at on the court. I would always win in one on one. He won a couple of times, but overall we just made each other better at the end of the day.

Who was the best player that you battled against in the NCAA that is in the NBA right now?

The best player I battled against was Jrue Holiday.

How does a summer work out plan look like for you on and off the court in 2015?

My summer work out plan for this summer looks like a couple of camps and just working out & on my game. Just waiting on my time to come.

What do the Orlando Magic have to do to become a playoff team next season?

The Orlando Magic have to go get a super star and surround him with the nice young talent they currently have.

What was the last DVD movie that you saw?

Above the Rim.

Thanks Lorne for the chat.

Marcus Ginyard(Originally Known For My Great Defense I Have Continued To Grow Over The Years Into More Of A Complete Player)

Marcus Ginyard is a 28 year old 196cm swingman from Alexandria, Virginia that recently finished his fifth professional season and first with the Westchester Knicks (D-League) playing 18 games: 7.6ppg, 4.4rpg, 1.9apg, 2FGP: 55.1%, 3FGP: 36.8%, FT: 72.0% He played at top NCAA powerhouse school North Carolina from 2006-2010. In 2010-2011, he played his rookie season with  BBC Bayreuth (Germany-1.Bundesliga, starting five): 34 games: 10.9ppg, 3.6rpg, 1.6apg, 1.0spg, FGP: 51.1%, 3PT: 30.0%, FT: 74.0%. In 2011-2012, he played for Ironi Nahariya (Israel-National League, starting five): 28 games: 21.2ppg, 6.8rpg, 2.2apg, 1.7spg, FGP: 58.1%, 3PT: 32.1%, FT: 85.8%. Last season he played for  Anwil Wloclawek (Poland-PLK, starting five): 42 games: 12.3ppg, 4.2rpg, 1.4apg, 1.1spg, FGP: 52.2%, 3PT: 34.6%, FT: 78.6%. In the 2013-2014 season he played with Azovmash Mariupol (Ukraine-Superleague): 11 games: 15.5ppg, 5.3rpg, 2.5apg, 1.2spg, 2FGP: 45.3%, 3FGP: 44.8%, FT: 80.4%; VTB United League: 8 games: 14.8ppg, 4.3rpg, 1.5apg, 2FGP: 64.1%, 3FGP: 27.8%, FT: 80.8%, left in Mar.’14, later that month moved to Stelmet Zielona Gora (Poland-TBL). He spoke to German Hoops after the 2014-2015 season.

After playing your first four seasons in Europe after playing at North Carolina(NCAA) you played last season for the first time in the D-League for the Westchester Knicks (D-League). With what type of expectations did you go into this opportunity?

The only expectation I had going into the season was to have the opportunity to display my talents to the people closest to the NBA. I wanted to use this opportunity to work with great coaches and other players that were eager to join the ranks of the NBA.

You played 18 games averaging 7.6ppg, 4.4rpg, 1.9apg, 2FGP: 55.1%, 3FGP: 36.8%, FT: 72.0%. Most players go to the D-League with that NBA dream in mind. Did you see that realistic chance or did you have something else in mind?

The dream is very realistic for me. It was unfortunate that I began the very first day of my time in NY with an injury. Even during the 18 games I played, I was not nearly at full strength.

What kind of adjustment was it for you to play in a league where everyone is watching their stats and one on one basketball is the norm. Were you able to teach some teammates something about team basketball?

It was a learning process for a lot of us that were together in Westchester. At times we really showed that we could play great team basketball which made me appreciate team basketball even more.

Were you a bit disappointed with your overall limited playing time in the D-league? Is that whole idea of fighting for playing time and actually getting it different than getting a chance for European team to prove yourself as there are often less games there and more time to prove yourself in practices?

I was fighting through pain and lack of strength, which did not allow me to perform at my highest level. I am looking forward to next season, where everyone will see that I can play at the top level.

Westchester had some guys with NBA air like Russell Walker or Doron Lamb and also had guys that have played longer in Europe like Andre Barrett or Robert Vaden. What overall experience was it playing with these four Americans for you?

It was a blessing playing with those guys. I learned a lot from Andre Barrett, Russell Walker and Darnell Jackson. These guys with NBA experience had a lot of knowledge to share, and they were a pleasure to play with on the court.

Despite your limited playing time was your game able to take some shape and development in the D-League

Again, I do not feel that I was able to get into a rhythm that accurately represented my skill set. I had a few stretches where I played well, but considering I did not play a game at full strength, its hard to say that my game was able to take any great shape.

One often hears about horror stories in the D-League about travel and just the rigors of that life. After 4 years in Europe what was your wake up call to being in the D-League?

No matter where you are, there are going to be things that are less than ideal. It’s always a great time to appreciate what you have, and to focus on things that are within your control.

You ended the season with a short stay in Greece with Panionios ON Telecoms Athens. You came to a last place team that was filled with many Americans. You didn´t play a minute here. Was your pay check the only positive thing in this experience?

I did not receive any pay check. I was unable to sign with Panionios due to my contract obligations with the Knicks. We were unaware that the Knicks planned to retain my rights when they waived me, so it was a shock to us when I arrived in Greece and the Knicks refused to sign my letter of clearance.

You have played in countries like Israel, Ukraine and Poland since leaving Germany and Bayreuth as rookie. You keep talking about Germany. Is this the season where you finally come back to play in Germany?

I am hopeful that I can return to Germany this season. Germany is the only place I have played so far that actually felt like home for me. I was extremely comfortable in Germany, and felt the most focused on basketball there. Since leaving Germany, the league has continued to grow and become even more respected in Europe. Germany will be a perfect place for me to showcase my skills and help a team win for years to come.

That 2010-2011 season seems like ages ago as guys like Jared Reiner, Koko Archibong or Pete Campbell have retired. What made the Bayreuth experience so special to you?

It was special for a number of reasons. It was my first professional season, so naturally there will be some strong impressions made during a rookie campaign. But it was also special because I was surrounded by great people. My teammates, coaches, management, and the fans were so supportive, focused, and really concerned with doing things the right way. We played together as a team, and we fought hard as a city! I was extremely blessed to play in Bayreuth.

Last season you had the chance to play against ex teammate Danny Gibson in Poland. He like yourself has continued to have a very solid career. How special would it be to play with him again on a team possibly in Germany?

We missed each other. I actually never did play against him in Poland, but it would be great to see an old teammate again. I enjoyed playing with Danny in Bayreuth.

Have you followed Bayreuth over the years? They have been struggling and continue to have great fans who support their team like there is no tomorrow. In what memory do you have the fans and where would you rank them in your alltime fan list?

I have followed Bayreuth over the years. I keep in contact with quite a few people from Bayreuth, fans and players. I absolutely love the fans in Bayreuth! They were great for our team. They stand behind their team no matter what, and you can’t ask for anything more! I look forward to having a chance to see them again.

If you could describe yourself in a few sentences as to why you could help any BBL team now how would you do it?

I am an experienced, versatile player, who can play and guard multiple positions. I am a big, strong guard who can score the basketball in a variety of different ways. I also know what it takes to win, and make the small winning plays that you may not see on the stat sheet. Originally known for my great defense, I have continued to grow over the years into more of a complete player.

Lebron is averaging something like 40p, 12r and 8a in the last two games. If he pulls out the 2015 NBA title, will he be the best ever?

If he keeps up the numbers, he will certainly go down as having one of the best finals performances that we have seen. However, I do not think that him winning a championship would even come close to solidifying him as the best ever. I think there is no question that he is the best RIGHT NOW, but I think he still has some work to do in order to be the best ever.

What was the last DVD movie that you saw?

Can’t remember! But I did just see Entourage in theaters!

Thanks Marcus for the chat.

Steffen Harvey(Kirchheim Knights) I’d Rather Be Ready For An Opportunity That Never Comes Than To Not Be Ready For One That Does Come

Steffen Harvey is a 28 year old 185cm point guard, from Portland Oregon that also has the German citizenship and will return back to Germany after three and a half years and play for the Kirchheim Knights. He recently played for the Portland Chinooks (IBL). He started his basketball career with Mt. Hood C.C. and then played two seasons with Warner Pacific (NAIA) from 2007-2009 playing a total of 57 games. He then played in Germany from 2009-2011 for teams Magdeburg and UBC Hannover. He spoke to German Hoops about basketball.

Steffen thanks for talking to German Hoops. Where are you at the moment and how have you been enjoying your summer?

No problem, at the moment I am at home in Portland Oregon. Summer has been hot so far so I am definitely enjoying that.

Congrats on signing with the Kirchheim Knights of the German pro A. It has been more than three and a half years since you had a contract with BG Dorsten. Did you ever think that you would play professional basketball again?

Thank you, I appreciate it. I’ve always been optimistic about it, but in the last year some doubts definitely crept in my mind.

You played semi pro basketball last season for the Portland Chinooks (IBL). What did you do in the time between 2011-2014 when you started to play professional basketball again?

Basically from 2011-2014 I went back to school to finish my degree while being an assistant coach at Warner Pacific, worked a construction job on the side, and played in the IBL for Yamhill and Portland.

You had cited sickness in 2011 in the family for the reasons for not being able to play for BG Dorsten. When you look back now do you feel a bit disappointed that you missed such a long time of having been able to play professional basketball?

I can’t look back with any disappointment, I know my family needed me at that time and I had to make that sacrifice for them, even though I really wanted to be in Germany playing ball.

What about basketball always kept your desire alive for the sport that would give you the chance three and a half years later to lace up the sneakers once again for the sport that you love?

It’s the love! My mindset the last three years has been, I’d rather be ready for an opportunity that never comes, than to not be ready for one that does come. But more than anything, just trusting the Lord and His plan.

You have signed with the Kirchheim Knights. How did the contact come about? Did Michael Mai contact you or did you?

Mike and I have stayed in contact the last few years and when he got the job in Kirchheim last year we started talking about the possibility of me coming to play there, but we weren’t able to work it out last season.

Michael Mai coached you with Hannover and Magdeburg. With what kind of a feeling are you going into this working relationship? I am sure that both of you have developed further as player/coach and people?

I’m excited! Mike is great dude and a fun coach to play for!

Mai describes you as a very defensive strong pass first guard that will give the team much stability, experience and deepness. How do you see your role coming in?

I feel like I can play and accept whatever role the coach/team needs for us to be successful.

As a combo guard, you can help the team in many ways, but what is a hidden strength in your game that doesn´t get noticed right away on the court?

Toughness, mentally and physically.

After coming from Warner-Pacific in 2009 to Magdeburg as a rookie, what memories do you have of Germany, basketball and Michael Mai?

My first memories of Germany were not good. My luggage was lost on the flight over so I spent my first 12 days in Germany with nothing and it was a big time culture shock. But basketball wise it was fun, the team in Magdeburg was a great group of guys and welcomed me right away and so did Mike Mai.

In your second season you played for UBC Hannover. As a guard you had to battle each day in practice against Tobias Welzel. What memories do you have of him on and off the court?

Haha Tobias was a competitor! He was a great team first kind of player and a funny dude off the court.

How does a summer work out day look like for you in 2015 on and off the court?

Wake up, run 2-3 miles around the city, head to the gym to get a lift in and get shots up, find a good open run at one of the colleges around, then back to the gym to cool down in the pool and stretch in the steam room/hot tub.

If Lebron can pull out the 2015 NBA title, will he be the greatest player ever?

I might say he would be if Michael Jordan never existed..haha!

What was the last DVD movie that you saw?

The Equalizer.

Thanks Steffen for the chat.

Antoine Davis(Rhondorf Dragons) In My Rookie Year In Germany I Learned How To Talk To People And Different Ways To Try To Lead The Team

Antoine Davis is a 195cm forward from Rustburg, Virginia that will play his second professional season for Rhondorf this upcoming season. Last season as a rookie he played for SG Sechtem 1971 where he tore up the Regionaliga west averaging 26,4ppg, 7,2rpg and 2,3apg in 25 games while shooting 42,0% from outside. His stats from last season were amazing as he scored in double figures in all 25 games including a 42 point game against Grevenbroich and he scored 30 points or more in eight games including 36 point efforts against Munster and Duesseldorf. He started his basketball career at Louisburg JC (JUCO) and then played three seasons at Carson-Newman (NCAA2) and as a senior played 28 games: 19.0ppg, 6.0rpg, 3.0apg, 1.1spg, FGP: 51.9%, 3PT: 45.4%, FT: 84.1%. He spoke to German Hoops about basketball.

Antoine thanks for talking to German Hoops Where are you at the moment and how have you been enjoying your summer so far?

I’ve been really good this summer and I’m living in Tennessee.

You recently finished your first season as a professional for SG Sechtem 1971 with a record of 12-14. Despite having such amazing numbers, how much of a damper did the team season put on your individual season?

For me all I care about is winning or doing the things that will lead me to win and as long as I know I did my best I’m happy with how the season went.

You had an amazing season averaging 26,4ppg, 7,2rpga and 2,3apg while shooting 42% from outside. Did it sometimes feel like you were a man playing among boys?

I would not say against boys I played some good players but the work I put in during the offseason is what makes me confident I can score with great efficiency.

After coming from the NCAA2 at Carson-Newman, was the German Regionaliga step behind the NCAA2 level?

I don’t think it was a step behind but it was less athletic compared to where I played.

Despite having such high stats, did you concentrate mostly on keeping up those good stats or were you able to also work on other parts of your game through out the season?

During the season I wasn’t paying attention to the overall stats that much I just wanted to do every thing in my power to help my team win and most of the time that was to score big numbers.

You had many huge games, but would you rate your 42 point explosion against Grevenbroich as your season highlight?

I had a lot of good games but that one was special because I just felt in a zone that game and I felt like I could not miss. And my team played great and put me in the best positions to be aggressive.

In the first game against Cologne, you pulled out an exciting 86-85 win where you had 35 points, but in the return game you lost and you had your lowest scoring game of the season with 13 points. How strange would it be to play them this season again in the pro A as they are trying to play Pro A?

Cologne is a great team and they will definitely be a great challenge if we end up playing them but I know me and Rhondorf will be ready for the challenge.

In your rookie season you played with kids, as well as older players. What was your most important experience that you made as a rookie in Germany on and off the court?

Just how to talk to people and different ways to try to lead the team because the team was really diverse when it came to age so I had to talk to each player differently.

Your teammate at SG Sechtem 1971 was player agent peter Heizer. Were you able to get some important tips about the player market?

Yes we talked all the time about those things and he’s really smart about things like that.

You have signed with new German pro A team Rhondorf. You will be making the jump up two levels. How confident are you that you will be able to excel at the Pro A level?

I’m very confident because of all the hard work I’ve been putting in my whole life and so far this summer.

Will it be a difficult adjustment for you not necessarily scoring 35 points each night anymore in the German Pro A?

It won’t be too difficult because I did the same thing in college at Carson Newman so I have experience giving up more scoring for the betterment of the team and I will do anything the team needs me to do for the team to win.

You visited a Rhondorf practice last season. You must have had a good trust to head coach Boris Kaminski early on. What makes the trust to this coach so special?

He just seemed like a great coach that knew how to talk to players and I thought he knew a lot about the game of basketball and I could learn something’s from him

You can fill up the stats sheet, but what is a hidden strength in your game that doesn´t get noticed right away on the court?

I think most people look at my scoring and unless you actually watch me you don’t see my defensive abilities on and off the ball.

On what part of your game will you work on most this summer in order to be ready for the German Pro A?

Just getting stronger and working on my handles a little more.

How does a typical summer work out day look like for you on and off the court?

Well I have a weight room at my home so it starts there where I work out for about a hour. Then I go to the gym and make about 500 shots with my fiancé who rebounds for me and after that I try to play some pickup games.

Many have said if Lebron can pull out the 2015 NBA title, that he will be the greatest player next to Michael Jordan. Would you agree?

I think it would definitely take him a step closer to being in that discussion with Jordan.

What was the last DVD movie that you saw?

The last movie I watched was transformers 3 which is also my favorite movie.

Thanks Antoine for the chat.

2015 Beko BBL final Preview Brose Baskets Bamberg-FC Bayern Munich 3-2

It would have been interesting to have been able to read the inner deepest thoughts of NBA legend Dirk Nowitski who he thought was going to win game 5 in Berlin and who he was really rooting for 8 time Beko BBL champion Alba Berlin or 2014 BBL champion FC Bayern Munich two teams that would love to have him play his last farewell season in Germany whenever that day will arrive in the future. After telling the press in Frankfurt Thursday that he would take part at the 2015 European championships in Berlin in September with the German national team, he sped over to the nations capital to take in some sights and the Champions League final Saturday between FC Barcelona and Juventus Turin. If current NBA player Dennis Schroeder was really a good luck charm for FC Bayern Munich and Heiko Schaffartzik who´s path´s crossed in Braunschweig some years ago is possible, but the Atlanta hawk could be that secret luck charm for his ex teammate Daniel Theis in Bamberg in the finals series. It is no secret that even the most critical FC Bayern Munich fan was still probably going with their team, but throughout the series it was Alba Berlin that always had their albatross beak ahead of them and were using that home court advantage to the fullest. All Alba Berlin had to do was do what they had done all series long and win their last home game of the series, but instead they didn´t only lose, but lost in spectacular fashion in overtime as they couldn´t use their atmosphere and execute the way they knew how in crunch time in their own building. I was getting very excited for I really wanted to see the point guard series between Americans Brad Wanamaker and Alex Renfroe as they could of really had their own spectacular series and just let everyone else break out the popcorn take a seat back and watch the leagues best two point guards go to work while both teams Americans might have been wondering if Ted 2 was still going to be released in Germany before the end of the season so they could get a taste of that funny teddy bear in German. But instead the beko BBL will witness Brad Wanamaker against the FC Bayern Munich non American point guards Heiko Schaafrtzik, Vasilije Micic and Anton Gavel which is also a treat especially if one fancies unorthodox shots being hurled up to perfection. You can say what you want, but FC Bayern Munich finally earned some hard fought respect in this series. They had come into the 2015 playoffs not seen as the favorite as Bamberg and Berlin were clearly ahead, but finished off the Fraport Skyliners easily and then had to face an always tough and brutal Alba Berlin team and had to come back twice to tie the series and then win on the road in game five which they did. Even after they lost their nerves a bit with the Svetislav Pesic double technical, they stayed focused as a team and retired the Sasa Obradovic hand jestures for another season. With Bamberg well rested after disposing of ratiopharm ulm 3-0 the question will be can FC Bayern Munich do it again, but against a slightly tougher and more rested opponent with the Brose Baskets Bamberg.

Coming into the 2015 playoffs, the Brose Baskets Bamberg was led by American Ryan Thompson(13,8ppg, 2,6rpg, 2,4apg) who has had a great season after coming from the Belgium league has belonged to the most dangerous three point shooters on the team. He has scored in double figures 21 times including a 35 point explosion against ratiopharm Ulm. Brad Wanamaker(12,9ppg, 3,7rpg, 4,6apg) from Philadelphia and Pittsburgh(NCAA) is the teams MVP and has been the motor that has made the team so successful. He scored in double figures 23 times and was instrumental in the two wins against Alba Berlin scoring 21 points and 16 points. Ex Xavier player Josh Duncan(12,7ppg, 5,5rpg, 1,8apg) was troubled by injury this season playing only 18 games, but returned in April and will be key in the playoff run with his athletic inside out play. He had big games against FC Bayern Munich and Oldenburg with 22 and 21 points. EX Minnesota(NCAA) forward Trevor Mbakwe(10,5ppg, 7,0rpg, 1,0apg) who had 10 and 10 stats as a rookie with Virtus Roma has been a high flyer in the BBL and has been a regular on the highlight films this season as he is a beast on the offensive glass. He has scored in double figures 19 times including a 25 point 10 rebound game against Phoenix Hagen. Dawan Robinson(10,5ppg, 1,6rpg, 2,2apg) came in January and has been a vital spark from the bench giving his vast experience of 9 professional seasons as his physical stature gives him much advantage getting buckets inside while his outside shooting has been spot on at 48%. Latvian Janis Strelnieks(10,2ppg, 2,3rpg, 2,7apg) is the full package at the point guard position as he excels in pick and role and changing the tempo and has scored in double figures 20 times including a 31 point outburst against FC Bayern Munich. High energy player German Daniel Theis(10,2ppg, 5,2rpg, 1,3apg) who can play inside out with the best of them had a good start to the season then a lull in the middle and has finished strong scoring in double figures in the last five games including a 20 point game against ratiopharm Ulm. Ex NBA player Darius Miller(9,6ppg, 2,1rpg, 2,2apg)who played with the New Orleans Pelicans the last two years playing 97 games came very late to the team, but has been a reliable asset from the bench shooting 46% from outside. Ex Gonzaga(NCAA) player Elias Harris(7,0ppg, 3,2rpg) who played two NBA games with the Los Angeles Lakers forms the best power forward duo with Theis in the league. He has scored in double figures 9 times and has suffered a bit with the deep rotation, but he is always a dangerous player that can change a game. German Kartsen Tadda(3,5ppg, 2,1rpg, 1,1apg) has won the most of anyone on the team with 7 titles with Bamberg and is a real team player that is always capable of making a big play. Croatian Dalibor Bagaric(1,3ppg, 1,2rpg) who played three seasons with the Chicago Bulls is a 217cm 130 kilo center who doesn´t play much, but when he does no one really want to bump into inside. He adds to the vast depth on the team.

FC Bayern Munich without a doubt have the deepest roster in the league and one would want almost each guy on your team as most would be starters on any other team in the league. The star of the team is John Bryant(13,5ppg, 7,9rpg) who played three seasons with ratiopharm Ulm and is the best center in the league as he is so difficult to stop, but the most valuable player on the team is Serb Nihad Djedovic(15,0ppg, 3,5rpg, 2,6apg) who is a high energy player that is so versatile that just does all on the court scoring in double figures in 19 of 24 games. After missing two months, he came back strong in April as if he had never been away. Head coach Svetislav Pesic has had his luck with picking the right Serb´s as Dusko Savanovic(11,6ppg, 4,6rpg, 2,1apg) was the hidden MVP as he is also a very mobile and versatile big man who is unselfish and belonged to the team´s best performers in the Euroleague. The guy with the biggest heart Bryce Taylor(9,5ppg, 3,1rpg, 1,3apg) was the team best three point shooter and as captain his team play was never missing. He came back slow from injury, but started going in February. Some just come and pay admission to see Anon Gavel(8,4ppg, 2,1rpg, 4,0apg) launch his line drive shots led the team in assists and can always haunt you with his bombs from outside. With Bryant taking a rest an opponent gets hit with the next bruiser with Vladimir Stimac(8,1ppg, 5,4rpg). There is nothing fancy about his game, but he gets the job done as Bonn witnessed as he poured in 19 points. The Serb connection continues with 2014 NBA draft pick of the Philadelphia 76ers with point guard Vasilije Misic87,6ppg, 2,1rpg, 3,7apg) who is like an energizer bunny and is just a pest to deal with from the bench. Just when you thought that that was the roster, you still have six Germans on the team. Heiko Schaffartzik(6,9ppg, 1,6rpg, 3,4apg) started only seven games, but was the teams second best three point shooter at 41% and can scare anyone with his focused look on the court at all times. Robin Benzing(6,5ppg, 2,2rpg, 1,3apg) is playing his fourth season in Munich, but his scoring stats have fallen the last three seasons. His scoring average obviously will suffer on a team like Munich, but he is always good for some unexpected big plays. Jan Jagla(5,3ppg, 2,8rpg)still going strong at 33 and is always effective in the minutes that he gets. Paul Zipser(4,9ppg, 2,4rpg) is a guy that needs to fight for his minutes, but showed what he can do scoring 20 against Tuebingen and 13 against Valencia in the Eurocup. Yassin Idbihi(3,5ppg, 2,0rpg) can always give support from the bench with points and rebounds, but this season is more a cheerleader.

Despite so many changes occurring in the Bamberg roster as well as a new coach in this season, the Brose Baskets Bamberg had no problems in the 2015 playoffs as they are still perfect at 6-0. They disposed of the EWE Baskets Oldenburg even if the sweep score is somewhat deceiving as Oldenburg played them tough, but they continued to play their game and also swept ratiopharm ulm. Bamberg showed their overpowering home court dominance throwing Ulm out of Freak City after a 36 point win and a 20 point win. However they were tested on the road winning 81-80 as had they lost this game, who knows how they would have reacted at home with a 1-1 series stand point and a more confident Ulm team in game three. In both home games Bamberg showed their potent ball movement, had five guys in double figures, won the rebound battle and connected for 27 three pointers while Brad Wanamaker was top scorer in two of the three games. By not having the home court advantage, FC Bayern Munich always had to go to Berlin trying to steal a game, but that didn´t work in game one or three which they lost. In game one, they were out rebounded and shot a miserable 3/17 from downtown as Alba Berlin cruised to the 81-55 win while in game three they actually got an offense going, but played Phoenix Hagen basketball shoot out style allowing Alba Berlin to do almost anything giving up 101 points. FC Bayern Munich was outrebounded again and gave up 13 trey´s and just couldn´t match the harsh Alba Berlin fire power as they could boast seven guys in double figures as Reggie Redding was top scorer with 20 points, rebounder with seven and assists with six. FC Bayern Munich came home winning game two and four. In game two FC Bayern Munich won 85-73. They did just the necessary to win on offense, but defended a lot better as Alba Berlin was searching for their groove all night long. They shot only 6/22, but still had a harmony on offense as six guys scored in double figures. In game four, they got a scare from Alba Berlin, but prevailed 89-83 to force that deciding game five. FC Bayern Munich dominated the boards, but on a day where they weren´t firing too much from outside, they went inside and it was the free throws that decided the game as they hit 20 more free throws than Alba Berlin. In game five, it was a fight to the finish as Alba Berlin was down by 8 in the fourth, but fought back to force overtime, but then perished 101-96 as FC Bayern Munich just had the better nerves in the last five minutes. John Bryant is the star of FC Bayern Munich, but their best player is Nihad Djedovic who poured home 30 points and hit a big three pointer in overtime which gave the road team the momentum. Even if Alba Berlin did win the rebound duel, FC Bayern Munich shot a lot better from outside at 14/28. Even a huge 29 point, 10 rebound and six assist effort from Jamel Mclean couldn´t get the team the win. Mclean most likely played his last game for Alba Berlin as countless Euroleague teams like Macabbi Tel Aviv are seeking his services.

Last season FC Bayern Munich disposed of Alba Berlin too win the title and now will have to get past the Brose Baskets Bamberg who are in their fifth final in the last six years. Bamberg has the long rest while FC Bayern Munich are playing their best basketball in the last weeks having come from 2-1 games down and beating Alba Berlin back to back and will have extra self confidence when they arrive in Freak City for game one. Both teams split the season series as Bamberg won at home 80-63 as Bamberg had a solid 40 minute defensive game and got ample production from American Josh Duncan with 22 points and Brad Wanamaker as always supplied the motor with 18 points. The team also got valuable production from the bench form Trevo Mbakwe with 12 points and Janis Strelnieks with 11 points. Bamberg did a little of the key things better like rebounding, field goal percentage and shooting from outside. In the return game in Munich, Bamberg seemed to have the Munich number in their living room as they were up by seven after three quarters, but a lethal 29 point Bayern onslaught in the fourth quarter powered the comeback and win. FC Bayern Munich got major production inside form big men John Bryant and Dusko Savanovic who combined for 38 points. Despite 30 points from the bench from Strelnieks and combined 26 points from the bench from Dawan Robinson and Elias Harris, it just wasn´t enough for Bamberg to get over the hump. Bamberg rebounded better and shot better from outside, but the 31 Munich free throws were a big factor why they could win. When looking at the most important head to head team stats, FC Bayern Munich averages 88 points per game while Bamberg does 85. Bamberg shoots 51% from the field and FC Bayern Munich 47 while from the parking lot Bamberg hits 41% while FC Bayern Munich only 35%. Munich rebounds better 37-34. This should also be a great series as both teams are strong at home and it should go to the wire with Bamberg having slightly better chances to be able to steal a game on the road. The two key players to stop are Brad Wanamaker and Nihad Djedovic. If Wanamaker is slowed down or his motor isn´t on, then Bamberg struggle, while Djedovic can always spark FC Bayern Munich in times where they are in a bad phase and just seems to be able to score in so many different ways and whenever he wants and needs to. FC Bayern Munich have the physical advantage and they should play their game, but Bamberg have the more athletic players and that is what most likely will decide the game which part of their games is better used and executed. Even if FC Bayern Munich might have the slightly deeper bench, Bamberg has the stronger German individual players with Daniel Theis and Elias Harris as well as shooters Strelnieks and Robinson that will make the difference. At best FC Bayern Munich must steal game one, but they have three games more in their bones in these playoffs and once again have the physiological disadvantage of having to fight with their backs to the wall with not having home court advantage. FC Bayern Munich might be coming into the final on a high, but all in all the Brose Baskets Bamberg team is the more consistent team and more active and energetic team on the court for 40 minutes that will just be too much for Pesic and co to handle.

Andrew Jones(My Goal Is To Bring Out The Best In My Teammates And For Them To be As Confidant As I Am On The Court)

Andrew Jones is a 32 year old 191cm shooting guard that has been a professional basketball player since 2007. He played at Miles(NCAA2) and has played in Germany for most of his professional career with three seasons with the Dresden titans and three seasons with the BG Aschersleben Tigers (Germany-Regionalliga). He also gained experience playing with teams like Marietta Storm (SEBL), BC Celtics (SEBL), C.B. Aridane (Spain-EBA) and Universidad Tecnologica Equinoc. Quito (Ecuador-National League). Last season he played for BG Aschersleben Tigers (Germany-Regionalliga) averaging 19,9ppg, 6,5rpg and 3,9apg. He spoke to German Hoops about basketball.

Andrew thanks for talking to German Hoops Where are you at the moment and how have you been enjoying your summer so far?

Hello Miles, summer is looking pretty good. Currently I am in Dresden concentrating on staying fit and preparing for the next season.

Last season you played for BG Aschersleben Tigers (Germany-Regionalliga). After two very productive scoring seasons in the German Pro B with Dresden, it seemed like you went a step back. Was this really the direction that you wanted to take?

After my first season in Pro B with the Dresden Titans, I resigned before I left to go home. 20 days later I signed a summer contract in Ecuador for 3 months. I told the agent at the time, after my second season with the Titans that I would work with him after. Things didn’t work out as planned, so I returned to Germany and Aschersleben needed a player and we agreed to work together.

Your stats weren´t really that different in the German pro A and German Regionaliga. Just how much of a difference is there skill wise between the Germans in the two leagues?

In Regionaliga it’s tougher because you have to win every game if your chasing the number one spot. Also, in higher leagues there are more threats and you can’t single out one player on the scouting report. In Regionaliga its easy to box and 1 the best player.

BG Aschersleben Tigers (Germany-Regionalliga) had a 18-4 record last season. Were there no options to remain with the team?

There was an option to comeback of course, however, that is not my plan. Being with Aschersleben this year was a situation that came to me because of an injured player. I enjoyed the experience and the professionalism from the BG Aschersleben Tigers.

Last season you averaged 19,9ppg, 6,5rpg and 3,9apg. You are 32 now. Were these stats to your liking and do you still see yourself putting up these numbers as you get older?

Scoring has never really been a big concern to me. I have done it so long that it feels natural. However, I feel like I could have got more rebounds. Whatever the team needs me to do statistically, I will try my best to make it happen.

What was your season highlight? Possibly the 35 point game against Cottbus?

The Cottbus game was a good one for me. But, I will say the highlight of the season was when I told our young player Pascal Wolfram to get a dunk in the Stade game. He looked at me very nervous and said he don’t think he would be able to. I cut him off before he could get any more words out and told him just do it. He dunked on the biggest guy on their team and I jumped up like I did it.

At age 32 what are your major goals now as a player? You showed for many years that you can play at the pro B level. What besides your experience could be beneficial for a pro B team?

I really want to compete for a championship on a Pro B and up level, the atmosphere looks amazing. My leadership will be beneficial. My goal is to bring out the best in my teammates and for them to be as confidant as I am on the court.

Describe your game now in a few sentences as to why you could help any team at any level.

I am a good ball handler and shooter that will keep defenses honest. I am able to create for myself as well as my teammates.

Your defense also hasn´t slowed down with age as you averaged 3,1spg last season and had 8 and 6 steal games. Do you have to work extra hard on your fitness to still be able to excel on the defensive end with age?

Defense is more about if you want to. If you go out every night and say I want to stop my defender, a few steals will come. I pay more attention to my body and make sure that I always stretch. I don’t know that I am 32 until Iook at a photo I.D.

You have played mostly in Germany, but could you see yourself moving to another country at this stage in your career?

Anything is possible of course. My girlfriend works at an international school here in Germany so I don’t want to create too much distance from her. Germany is more likely my home until my career is done.

You played a season with American Jason Boucher with Dresden. In that season you both carried the team. He doesn´t seem to want to quit either as he is still playing pro ball. What was your fondest memory with him on and off the court?

Jason could really shoot the ball. He could get in the lane do a spin move against two big guys, throw the ball up and put enough spin off the glass for it to go in. He did it often and it always amazed me.

How does a summer work out day look like for you on and off the court?

I usually hit the weight room in the mornings. Everywhere I travel in the city is by bike, so I am getting a lot of cardio there. Later in the evenings I get a lot of ball handling and shooting done

Despite Golden State winning game one, many still believe Lebron and the Cavs will win the 2015 NBA title. What is your prediction as to who will win it all?

I just hope to see good games, haha. The hawks would have been my pick to win it all

What was the last DVD movie that you watched?

Superman Man of Steel.

Thanks Andrew for the chat.

Will Barnes(Hamburg Towers) I Definitely Grew As A Player And Person This Season With The Hamburg Towers

Will Barnes is a 27 year old 185cm point guard from Tuscaloosa, Alabama that recently completed his second professional season and first with the Hamburg Towers. With Hamburg he played 28 games averaging 13.8ppg, 3.1rpg, 2.5apg, 1.2spg, FGP: 50.3%, 3PT: 28.8%, FT: 77.1% He started his basketball career in 2006 for Tennessee Tech (NCAA) where he played a total of 98 NCAA games. In 2012-2013 he played at  Lee (NAIA) playing 34 games: 20.0ppg, 4.1rpg, 2.6apg, FGP: 50.3%, 3PT: 41.0%, FT: 77.7%. Last season as a rookie he played for the Finke Baskets playing 29 games: Score-3(18.8ppg), 3.5rpg, 3.4apg, FGP: 64.3%, 3PT: 37.2%, FT: 75.8%. He spoke to German Hoops after the end of the 2014-2015 season.

Will thanks for talking to German Hoops. Where are you at the moment and how have you been enjoying your summer so far?

Hello Miles, all is well my way! I am actually still in Hamburg training with a trainer and working out. I fly back to America next weekend

You just completed your second season in Germany and first with new team Hamburg Towers. How content were you with the teams performance?

I was pleased overall with our season. It was a great accomplishment to reach the playoffs in our first year existing as a club. But at the same time, I feel we let a lot of games slip away that if we would have won, we would’ve avoided the 8th spot.

You didn´t play in the playoffs because you were injured. Was that experience and all around player in you missing in the series against Wurzburg?

Yes I could tell from game 1 that my presence was missed in the series against Wurzburg. The pressure I could’ve put on their defense would have made it a different series. They just sat back in zone mostly.

How are you at the moment physically? Will you be ready to play next season wherever you play?

Physically, I am doing extremely well. Staying here in Germany and working with professionals to recover and rehab correctly has me at 100 as of today! Honestly, my injury is being blown out of proportion. It was basically a sprained knee. The training and rehabilitation I went through has me feeling very strong physically. The timing of the injury just came at the worst time possibly. It was something to deal with but all in all it made me stronger.

Hamburg made the playoffs, started to sell out the new arena halfway through the season and brought a new kind of basketball life to the 1,7 million city. How did you sense did the basketball excitement grow in the city throughout the season?

The city definitely supported us to the fullest this year. Considering it was our first year in existence, the fans were tremendously supportive through the highs and lows of the season. They were great!

We talked about your teammate Bazou Kone throughout the season and he suffered an almost 4 month injury in December 2014. He came back late in the season and held his own against Wurzburg doing the best he could in your absence. How do you evaluate his development form the start to the end of the season?

Bazou is a hungry, young player! Unfortunately as you mentioned his season was cut very short due to injury. Without question had he been healthy, our season would’ve been completely different.

Your stats were down from your season in Paderborn, but your role was different in Hamburg and you had more scoring options in Hamburg. How do you evaluate your season. Were you able to grow as a Hamburg Tower?

I feel overall I played a solid season. I had to play off the ball pretty much the whole season which I am not used to. I pretty much was strictly a shooting guard this year, and it was something to adjust to considering my point guard back ground. I also had to battle through a lot of small bangs and bruises. I played through a broken finger the last 15 games of the season that I suffered in a test game against Itzehoe during Christmas break. But I definitely grew as a player and person this season. Being captain, there was just so much more expectations and it will prove to make me better for the rest of my career.

The Hamburg Towers have signaled that they will keep many players. What is your status for next season? There has been speculation that German pro B player of the year Diante Watkins may take your role.

I’ve heard the rumors and have been told certain things from the club that lead me to figure they are looking elsewhere even though they have told me different. I just once again feel like my knee injury is being blown out of proportion. It was a cartilage injury that didn’t require surgery. I’m already back at training hard and preparing for next season wherever that may be. I talk to many people around the world and always keep my options open. So, I’m not in a predicament to worry about my career being in jeopardy or to worry about next season.

After two seasons in the German Pro A could you imagine trying another country or do you feel you could help a Beko BBL team if you got the opportunity?

Yes, I am completely open at this point because I haven’t received a commitment from the Hamburg Towers of any kind. Teams offer and sign returners soon after the season ends and I know how to put 2 and 2 together. I’ve been drawing interest from many markets so I am focused on bettering my game and body. The rest will take care of itself. But I am preparing myself to make a jump in league competition and salary. Where exactly that will be is to be determined!

How does a normal work out day look like for you on and off the court this summer?

A normal workout day includes a morning workout usually in the weight room followed by shooting. Then another skill and ball handling session in the evening when I’m not playing in open gym or summer leagues. My work ethic is the reason I am where I am today. I love to train and get better in the offseason.

What is your 2015 NBA final pick? Will the Splash brothers and Golden State get by Lebron?

I’m taking the Warriors! I’m a huge Steph Curry fan and would love to see him win it.

What was the last DVD movie that you saw?

The last movie I watched was Life.

Thanks Will for the chat.

Jermale Jones(In My Four Years In Germany I Have Learned To Be More Of A Team Player And Sacrifice My Game For The Team

Jermale Jones is a 28 year old 186cm guard from Birmingham, Alabama that recently finished his third season for German pro B club TV Lich. He started his basketball career in 2005 for Lawson State CC (JUCO) where he played until 2007. He then played two more years at Tuskegee (NCAA2). In 2011-2012 he came to Germany and played for SSV Lokomotive Bernau (Germany-ProB) playing 18 games: 17.5ppg, 2.0rpg, 1.7apg, 1.2spg, FGP: 45.6%, 3PT: 36.4%, FT: 79.2%. In the 2013-2014 season for Lich he played 24 games averaging 18.5ppg, 3.6rpg, 1.3apg, 1.3spg, FGP: 46.9%, 3PT: 35.7%, FT: 76.2%. He spoke to German Hoops about his future.

Jermale thanks for talking to German Hoops. Where are you at the moment and how have you been enjoying your summer?

I’m currently in Phoenix. My summer so far has been great enjoying family and friends.

You were in Arizona recently doing some rock climbing? What is the most challenging thing with going up against the rocks?

The most challenging thing in rock climbing is focusing on your next step.

You recently completed your third season with Lich having to survive the play downs. How taxing was this season overall for you?

This past season was an up and down season and we were never consistent. At certain parts of the season I became very frustrated but I had to continue to keep my head up and stay positive because I was one of the leaders of my team and I couldn’t let any of the other players see me frustrated and we needed to stand together and finish the season successful as a team

Your scoring and three point shooting was down a bit from the 2013-2014 season. Is this something that eats at you now when you have a long period before the next season or is this something that you can turn off quickly?

It’s something I can turn off quickly because the season is over now and I have a whole summer to get better and work on the things I need to work on to better myself.

At the age of 28 you have had four strong pro B seasons. How do you feel has your game developed in this league over time?

In my 4 years I have learned to be more of a team player and sacrifice my game for the team. I have learned more about spacing and timing and making the correct basketball play when it’s thrown at me like making the extra pass or penetrating the open gaps to get other players involved.

You have been a top player in the German pro B and you have to be true to yourself that you don´t want to be a Pro B player forever. You saw many games of the Giessen 46ers last season who played pro A. Why do you feel that you could play at this level?

Due to the sportive cooperation of Licher Basketbaeren and former ProA-team GIESSEN 46ers in the past season I’ve been able to work out with the ProA-team in practices 3 times a week. It’s been a great experience and I learned a lot from their headcoach Denis Wucherer and their players.

You most likely would like to stay in Germany because you are known, but you wouldn´t shy away from going to play in another country. If you could describe yourself in a few sentences as to why you could help any team next season what words would you choose?

My 4 years overseas with different players and coaches in good and bad seasons, I know what it takes to play on a professional level by having the needful daily discipline, always working hard in practice and games, I am able to read the game and make others better, I am a go to guy for a team, fans and sponsors at the same time. Also I like to be in touch and working offside the court by training kids, etc.

How does a typical summer work out day look like for you on and off the court?

Every morning I wake up at 8am to be at the gym at 9 to get a lot of shots up. At 2Pm I head to the track for conditioning and to finish the day at 6pm it’s all individual work for example working the pick and roll, coming off screens knocking down shots or ball handling and etc.

You saw many games of Fraport Skyliner Justin Cobbs as well as other top Eurochallenge guards last season. Does Cobbs have the game to become a solid NBA guard?

Yes, Cobbs is really good and I can see him getting back in the league to be solid for whatever team he is on.

What is your 2015 NBA final prediction? Will the Cavs win or can the splash brothers and Golden State deny Lebron?

It would be nice to see Lebron bring the championship to Cleveland but I want to also see Steph Curry win a championship also with everything he has been through in the past seasons dealing with injuries. Its going to be a tough series but Lebron will win in Game 7

What was the last DVD movie that you saw?

Get Hard with Kevin Hart & Will Ferrell.

Thanks Jermale for the chat.

Sterling Carter Living The Basketball Cinderella Story From Seattle To Rhondorf

Sterling Carter is a 24 year old 183cm point guard from Seattle, Washington that will be starting his professional basketball career this upcoming season in Germany for Pro A team Rhondorf. He started his basketball career at Pacific, then played three years at Seattle(NCAA) and finished at Purdue in 2014. He spoke to German Hoops about basketball.

Sterling thanks for talking to German Hoops Where are you at the moment and how have you been enjoying your summer?

No problem at the moment I’m at home with my Daughter watching a little bit of film from some of the teams in the PRO A just trying to learn the styles and The way teams play and some of the way the games are officiated.

One could say you have been living a basketball Cinderella story since 48 hours. Your last college game was 16 months ago and as of now you will play professional basketball this upcoming season in Germany. How blessed do you feel at the moment?

Words can’t even explain it. I’m so blessed and grateful to be in the position that I’m in now.

How difficult were the last 16 months? You tore your ACL ending your college career at Purdue, was represented by a black sheep agent that promised, but didn´t deliver, you had to work three jobs while being a single parent. What was the driving force that got you through this difficult time?

It was the hardest thing I ever been through I could only think of how I wanted my daughter to never have to need or want anything because I worked hard during my time on the court. So while working those three jobs I would work out every night after work even after my 13hour shifts and it was hard but my dream was to be a PRO Basketball player not to work three jobs making 12$ HR but God blessed me with Mike finding me and keeping his word 100%.

Your new agent Mike Baron did a good job signing you with new German Pro A team Rhondorf. Without even being in Germany yet, do you feel some initial uneasiness and pressure starting your professional career so late as outside factors hindered you from starting a year ago?

No because I feel like I’m playing where I’m supposed to be and at the time I’m supposed to be. Sitting out last season helped my game more on the mental side as I got to watch a lot more basketball and watch the mistakes I made during my college career. Me and my father watch a lot of my film to see where I can be better and I feel now that I’m back 100%. I’m going to be more than ready this upcoming season.

Often there are players that have that four year career at one school, but you played at Pacific, Seattle and Purdue. Do you feel having had this vast experience, that this will help you more as a professional as you try to set foot as a professional in Germany?

Yes I think it helps a lot it and allows me to learn a new system faster and adapt to new things as I had to do 3 different times in my 5 year college career.

You had two very solid years at Seattle scoring in double figures, but in your third year there you had a massive falling out with head coach Cameron Dollar which led to you being released from your scholarship. When you look back at this incident what were the key factors that led to you having to end your basketball at Seattle?

To be honest with you there was never a fall out between us the program just decided to go in a different direction and they decided to release me and that was all that took place. Which in the long run worked out better for me. I believe everything happens for a reason.

You finished your degree at Seattle while your friends were playing NCAA games. How did you cope not being able to play, but being able to focus on your studies 100%

I knew that there was something else in store for m and it hurt that I couldn’t be a part of a team at the time but I graduated and got my degree for my parents and God blessed me with another opportunity to play at Purdue.

You then moved on to Purdue to finish your last year of basketball. You made your debut against Northern Kentucky and the next morning you were in Seattle to see the birth of your daughter Aria. With her birth a new life started for you. When you pick your first number with Rhondorf could you imagine having a symbolic number for your daughter?

Yes I picked the #1 because that is her age now and because she is #1 in my heart and in my life. She’s also my 1st child.

When you look back at your short career at Purdue where you played 27 games averaging 4.8ppg, 1.8rpg, 1.1apg. How would you summarize your game. Had you not suffered that ACL injury against Nebraska do you feel your career would have ended differently?

I do feel that I would have end the season with better stats and that I would have helped my team win more games than we did after I got hurt and we might have been able to sneak in the tournament.

Your best game for Purdue was shortly before your injury against Nebraska where you poured in 19 points in 18 minutes in a win against Indiana. Was this one of your fondest memories on the court at Purdue?

Yes I would say that was my favorite moment just seeing all the fans happy that we won the game and seeing the coaches excited to beat our rivals.

It is known that you can shoot as you proved with 28 points and seven three pointers against Pepperdine in 2011 with Seattle. But if you look at your game what is a hidden strength in your game that doesn´t get noticed right away on the court?

I would say my ability to play pressure on ball defense and score in more ways than just shooting three pointers.

You only played a short time for Matt Painter, but how did he prepare you best for a professional basketball career?

The one year I spent under coach Painter was great, because he taught me more than I had learned in the 3 years I had played previous on and off the court.

Who won a one on one in practice you or Ronnie Johnson?

Hah I would definitely win those battles but he’s a great player

Who was the toughest player that you battled on the court in the NCAA that is in the NBA now?

I would have to say Isaiah Thomas

How does a summer work out day look like for you on and off the court?

I work out at 9am in the mornings doing strength and conditioning with my trainer Greg then we go to he gym at 9:30pm and do a Basketball workout.

Who will win the 2015 NBA title Cleveland or Golden State?

I will have to go with Golden State. They are playing great basketball right now but I won’t be easy.

What was the last DVD movie that you saw?

Bad boys 2.

Thanks Sterling for the chat.
