Thanks Mychael for talking to germanhoops.com The ETB Miners Essen lost only 5 games during the regular season. Was there a game during the season where you then knew, we will win the whole thing?

We started the season on a 7 game win streak, during that time I knew no team could mess with us.

How vital was head coach Lars Wendt for the success? What was his biggest ability as a coach to be able to help bring success to the team?

His biggest ability was holding everyone accountable and being held accountable when he made a mistake. He was also a players coach, we could talk to him and he’d listen and make the necessary changes.

How valuable was sniper guard Marc Friederici? What besides his scoring helped the team be successful?

Very valuable, his defensive, mindset, and intensity helped the team be successful outside of his scoring abilities.

How valuable were bigs Ben Uzoma and Niclas Sperber? What was each player´s biggest attribute for the success?

Ben Uzoma brought elite rim protection and rebounding, while being a low post scorer we could rely on and captain Nic brought great leadership while also being a knock down shooter and someone who guard 1 through 4 for us, while having the ability to score in the post too

Which player was the most improved during the season?

I’d have to say Gabriel Jung, but that’s a very difficult question because we had so many different players set up throughout the course of this long season.

After playing high school ball in Canada, you then came to the States and played JUCO ball with Williston State College (JUCO) averaging 15.4ppg, 3.4rpg, 1.9apg, 2.1spg, FGP: 48.8%, 3PT: 38.1%, FT: 75.9%? and 11.4ppg, 2.6rpg, 2.2apg, 1.4spg, FGP: 40.6%, 3PT: 28.1%, FT: 69.4%. Every guy that I have interviewed that played JUCO have told me that JUCO was a real grind, but one that they would never have traded the world for. How was it for you?

The stories about JUCO are true it’s a real grind. It shows you who truly loves and cares about the game. My two years at JUCO were really fun and a grind but I made friends who have lasted a couple years now.

You were [NJCAA D1 District XI Champion in 2019. What memories do you have of that season? How special was that group of guys?

That group of guys were some dogs. We stayed in the gym 24/7 and competed always. Off the court were non stop jokes and good vibes.

You then played a season at Montana State University (NCAA) averaging 6.2ppg, 1.9rpg, 1.8apg, FGP: 46.3%, 3PT: 32.9%, FT: 60.0%. How vital was it playing a season in the NCAA for your game? You were teammates with German Finn Fleute and ex BBL player Harald Frey.

My goal when I started high school was to play college D1 basketball, so that season was vital for me to accomplish a goal I set for myself.

You then made the jump to McMaster University averaging 13.3ppg, 3.6rpg, 1.4apg, 1.6spg, FGP: 51.9%, 3PT: 31.2%, FT: 75.0% and 13.1ppg, 3.5rpg, 3.3apg, 1.5spg, FGP: 55.5%, 3PT: 29.3%, FT: 65.0%. How did your game grow further under head coach Patrick Tatham?

Coach Patrick is like family, so when I committed to McMaster University, he told me he had a plan for me and held me accountable for everything. He treated me like a professional and put me uncomfortable situations which was very beneficial for me moving forward.

Who won a 1-1 in practice, you or Mike Demathus?

Me of course

You came overseas in 2023 and played with Telekom Baskets Bonn Second Team (Germany-Regionalliga) averaging 24.6ppg, 4.2rpg, APG-4 (5.1), 2.5spg, FGP: 50.8%, 3PT: 36.0%, FT: 75.5%. What do you remember being your wake upcall to being overseas where you knew that you were far away from home?

The biggest wake-up call for being overseas was the language barrier and adjusting to whole different way of living. The first week for me was a complete culture shock.

Your 2 best scoring games was 45 against BG Hagen and 37 points against Essen. How crazy looking back now is it knowing those would be your 2 future teams? What memories do you have of those games?

It’s kind of crazy looking back now, but what I remember about those games was just being in the zone and just feeding off the opposing crowd.

# In your second season you played with BG Hagen (Germany-Regionalliga) averaging 19.0ppg, 3.7rpg, 3.3apg, 1.8spg, FGP: 59.2%, 3PT: 36.6%, FT: 81.8%. What memories do you have of that season? You lost a tough 2 game playoff series against Koln DTV?

Yeah we lost to Köln in the first round of the playoffs, but other than that it was a very fun and successful season. I made a bunch of connections on and off the court in Hagen.
