Brandon thanks for talking to German Hoops! 2017 is here and in full swing. Are you the kind of guy that will have new years resolutions or are you more a guy that doesn´t believe in that?
I believe in resolutions. Always good to set goals for yourself.
Congrats on the huge 59-54 victory against the RheinStars. Could one say this was a classic grind out game where two teams came to play defense?
The Koln game was very important for us. We better our selves for a better seeding in the playoffs if it came down to us or them. But overall we approached the game like it was a playoff game and everyone chiped in for a big victory.
Was this game already a good example of what kind of style can we awaited in the Pro A playoffs on a nightly basis?
We have our own unique style of going hard and I think people will see more and more of it as the season continue.
The RheinStars led by 6 at the break, but Trier buckled down in the second half giving up only 20 points. What wasn´t head coach Marco Van Den Berg peased about on the defensive end in the first half?
Well we missed a lot of shots that first half and those shoots led to a lot of fast break points for Koln. So we had to lock down in transition and also on second chance points. Coming in to the second half we knew once we start hitting shots we were going to be fine.
What adjustments did Trier make on defense to help grind out the win?
Wasn’t really a big adjustment. We just had to turn up the notch a bit and we did that.
How key was Thomas Grun in the win? On a night where little worked on offense, his 10 points had to have been valuable?
Thomas was really big for us in this game. he has been playing very well lately. On defense and the offense end Thomas been putting in a lot of work in practice and it’s paying off.
Trier is playing very good basketball at the moment having won four of their last five games. What has been key in the last month that has allowed you to be a playoff team and not fall out?
Just staying Invictus and being consistent. Keep playing our style I’m sure we going to be fine.
Every game is huge now in the fight for the top 8 playoff places. How confident are you that the Romerstrom Gladiators will be one of the top 8 teams at the end of the regular season?
I’m pretty confident like I said if we keep our playing our style we going to be fine.
The next game is against Ehingen whom you beat 80-73 earlier in the season. Ehingen is a lot better and dangerous than their record shows. What will be key to getting the win?
Defense is key, we locked down defensively we going to be fine.
How valuable has been the pick up of Canadian Jermaine Bucknor. What have you learned to appreciate most about his play and character?
Man Buck is a great guy on and off the court. He has so much knowledge about the game and it feels good to have a veteran with so much experience like him on our team. It’s been really big have him apart of the team.
Does Bucknor take some pressure of you on the court knowing that not all falls on your shoulder?
For sure Buck is a smart player and he makes the right decisions. We trust each other on the court and chemsitryy keeps growing ever yday.
In the last interview from October 2016, you said that “ I Love Leading And This Is A Long Season And Being Consistent Is Key”. You sure have been consistent and are having your best season in the Pro A. To what can you credit your success to?
Thank you, well just everyday putting in the work practice going hard trying make myself better. Our practices our very competitive and it helps me really make game days easy because of the training.
You have improved in scoring, rebounding, assists and three point percentage. Your shooting near 40% from outside. Has your better three point accuracy have to do more with shot selection or having put in extra hours in the gym to perfect your stroke?
Extra work, smarter with shot selection, reading what the defense gives me really. I feel that I’m such a smarter player. Just have to keep working and become even smarter. I still have work to do.
Klay Thompson recently hit 60 points in 29 minutes touching the ball for only 90 seconds. Where does this performance rank with you?
Top 10 for sure in my book. I love watching Klay play.
One always talks about Lebron and Curry, but one has to mention Russell Westbrook. He is averaging triple double stats at the moment. Is he stat wise the best player in the world right now?
Russell Westbrook is a beast, I love his game and honestly I try to copy a lot of things from him.
Draymond Greene recently had a triple double without scoring 10 points or more. Why do you believe has it taken long for someone to do this?
It took so long because Draymond is a player special and he does everything that other players don’t want to do and that is going and taken that extra step in competing. Special
What was the last movie that you saw?
Thats my boy.
Thanks Brandon for the chat.
