Congrats on the 79-63 win against the Hamburg Towers. After a three game losing streak, BV Chemnitz now are riding a two game winning streak. How good is basketball life now?
Basketball life is always good when you’re winning and its nice to get back to winning after three straight losses
BV Chemnitz was behind quickly down 19-10 after one quarter. How tough is it playing in the Hamburg arena that is always loud. How key is it finding a good rhythm there quickly?
The Hamburg arena is a nice atmosphere and they play much better at home so it was key to keep them close enough that we could come back.
BV Chemnitz picked it up in the second quarter, but were still down at halftime 34-29. What did head coach Rodrigo Pastore tell the team to do better in the second half?
We made a few adjustments, but basically he told us to keep doing what we were doing to get us back into the game the last five minutes of the second quarter.
In the third quarter BV Chemnitz really opened up the game scoring 29 points. What did you learn from the offensive qualities of the team during this quarter?
I think we are a really talented team and we are still coming together and getting better, so when we have runs and quarters like that it just shows where we can be and the level we need to try to play at consistently.
You scored 11 points and five different players scored for BV Chemnitz. How vital was sharing the ball and keeping up the consistency in the third quarter?
Sharing the ball is one of our keys to success and we are much better as a team when the ball is moving and everyone is involved. It is something we constantly focus on.
The Hamburg Towers are a talented team, but underachieving a bit this season. How proud were you of the defense that held them to 63 points in a difficult environment?
Holding teams under 70 is always a goal for us, but for sure to hold a team to 63 on their home court is a pretty good job.
I guess on a day where Anthony Canty is the zone, you tend to key in on the rest. Was that pretty much what BV Chemnitz did?
Not really we actually keyed on him, he was a big focus for us during the week but he played well, luckily we contained everyone else.
You were the best player on the court and really filled up the stat sheet. Was this your personal best game of the season?
Probably statistically it was my best game of the season, but we have 7 wins with 4 more games before the halfway point, we had 7 wins last year at the halfway point and for me that is the better thing. Stats are better when you are winning.
The club is playing their best defense of the season allowing 64 points in the last three games. Is this a trend that the team will be able to hold in the next games?
We hope so especially at home it is tough to play in the Hartmann Halle to and we always hope to keep teams points down which also allows us to get out in transition more.
You saw Joe Lawson play last season with Gotha. He has made the next step this season with BV Chemnitz. How do you feel has his game developed this season?
Joe is good and we knew we were lucky to get him from Gotha. He is still young and gets better week to week. I think we let him show off his full game more this season and he is a good shooter and can really attack other bigs from the perimeter I think those are a couple of things we let him do more and will help him in the future.
The next game is against Trier. This is one of those teams that can always give you trouble. What will be key to getting the win.
Keep playing our way moving the ball getting everyone involved talking and playing good team defense.
Your 33 now and having another strong individual season. Do you tend to critic yourself differently after a game then say 4-5 years ago or is your post game process the same today?
I’m probably harder on myself now just because I’m smarter and see things better. I spend most of my time just criticizing myself for being old and too slow.
What will be the fate of the Golden State Warriors this season? Do you think that they could go on a long winning streak after the allstar break once the team is fully accustomed to each other?
I think they should win the championship, but win streaks and stuff wont be as important for them, but anything less than a championship is a failure for them.
What was the last movie that you saw?
Jack Reacher 2.
Thanks Virgil for the chat.
