Andrew Jones is a 32 year old 191cm shooting guard that has been a professional basketball player since 2007 and has returned back to the Dresden Titans this season. He played at Miles(NCAA2) and has played in Germany for most of his professional career with four seasons with the Dresden Titans and three seasons with the BG Aschersleben Tigers (Germany-Regionalliga). He also gained experience playing with teams like Marietta Storm (SEBL), BC Celtics (SEBL), C.B. Aridane (Spain-EBA) and Universidad Tecnologica Equinoc. Quito (Ecuador-National League). Last season he played for BG Aschersleben Tigers (Germany-Regionalliga) averaging 19,9ppg, 6,5rpg and 3,9apg. He spoke to German Hoops after the thrilling do or die win in Rostock.

Andrew congrats on the big 92-90 do or die win in Rostock. How proud are you of your team that you survived and escaped the nasty Seawolves den?

I’m very proud! It was a tough fight at the end, but I’m glad we come home with the win.

What were head coach Steven Clauss´s first words directly after the game in the locker room?

I really don’t remember, everyone was glad to get a win against a tough team at a tough arena.

Head coach Steven Clauss got revenge after losing a do or die game last season with Hanau. Could you sense some relief for him finally beating Rostock in a three game series?

Actually I didn’t know that was the team he lost to last year in the playoffs. He is always relaxed so I didn’t see any stress coming from him.

You won your second do or die game in a row. Do you feel like winning these tight do or die games are becoming a positive habit for you?

There is a different focus with these types of games. The season could come to an end if you lose. So, fighting with more intensity is a must.

The Dresden Titans had the solid 46-39 lead at halftime and seemed in command on hostile ground. What words of wisdom did Steve Clauss give the team going into the second half?

He wanted us to keep running and maintain the same intensity. Also, Keep them off the boards for second shots.

The Dresden Titans led by as much as 15 points in the second half, but Rostock made a furious comeback. Did Dresden feel too comfortable and lose focus and an oversight of it´s basketball principles?

Basketball is a game of runs. Rostock is a very good team, so you would have to expect they would fight back.

Rostock made a big run in the fourth to tie the game at 85-85. What was key for Rostock making the game very interesting again?

They had free throw attempts and many second chance points.

The game continued to swing back and forth, but Randall Holt made a big three and Dresden went on a 7-0 run to lead 92-85. How difficult was it being focused on all game situation principles in a loud arena that was going wild?

It was crazy because there were close calls that could have went either way. One different call could have change the outcome of the game.

Dresden pulled out the win at the end, but it was very close? Was team rebounding what was key in the last minute for securing the win?

We just kept fight until the end. That’s all I can say.

How difficult is it to understand that the team shot the lights out from downtown with 16 three´s, but won only by two points?

It goes back to the strong run they had. They had good momentum in the fourth which took away from our 3pt shooting.

You had a very solid game with 11 points and three three pointers. Were you content with your offensive aggressiveness?

I liked my aggressiveness very much. However, I missed a few at the rim that are easy makes for me. I will definitely put more focus this week.

Dresden now meets BG Karlsruhe. How excited are you to be battling the best team in the Pro B south?

This will be a very exciting matchup. I know a few guys on the team so it will be very interesting series.

You lost one game by 16 points, but lost the first encounter by three points. In both games you didn´t have Randall Holt yet and BG Karlsruhe didn´t have Paul Brotherson yet. In the 16 point loss, three of their starters scored 80 of the team 96 points. What kind of series can we await this time?

They have a deep roster like we do. We did not have Randal at the point in either game we played during the season. So the scenario is different. They are the team to beat. But, we are too!!

BG Karlsruhe have a very strong starting five and beasts in Marcus Smallwood and Jeremy Black. What will be key in getting the upset?

Obviously keeping them off the boards. Both of these guys have been strong rebounders their whole careers. So controlling the boards will help us towards winning.

How confident are you that you will be able to step up your game even more in the series against BG Karlsruhe?

I had two of my best games against them this season. I like playing against stronger teams. The playoffs makes it a bigger stage, so I’m very confident going into this series.

Were you surprised that Oklahoma lost by 44 points to Villanova?

Very surprised!!! I didn’t even think Nova would make it this far. To see them take care of Oklahoma on such a big stage is very shocking.

Who will win the NCAA 2016 title North Carolina or Villanova and what will the score be?

Hard to bet against NC. However, the Villanova boys are playing ball in the tourney. Will be an interesting game.

What was the last movie that you saw?

Kung Fu Panda 2.

Thanks Andrew for the chat.
