He spoke to German Hoops before the game against the Fraport Skyliners.

Ken thanks for talking to German Hoops. How did you experience your first holiday season in Germany? Most players marvel about the Christmas markets. Is that something that you also enjoyed?

The holiday was good. I got to spend it with my fianceè and the guys on the team.

What new years resolutions have you made for Ken Horton the professional basketball player and person?

As far as basketball player, just try to improve on all aspects of my game as well as helping the team win in whatever I can. and as a person, I usually don’t make resolutions as I try to better myself year round, without the cliché of the new year.

Before the contest against the Phoenix Hagen, medi Bayreuth had defended better averaging giving up 72 points per game, but last weekend gave up 93 points against the Ingo Freyer team. What did medi Bayreuth get away from on the defensive end?

We came to flat in the first half and we didn’t defend the 3 point line as well as we could have. against a good shooting team you have to be able to guard the outside as well as the inside.

The club was outrebounded and are only averaging 26 per game at the moment. With the departure of Kendall Gray and Andrew Naymick, how much is that big man presence missing at the moment?

Its definitely a huge factor for us, but its not an excuse. We all have to put in work on rebounding from the point guards to the center. Everyone has to do their part.

What has been your impression of German national player Andreas Seiferth? How has he been integrated into the team so far and what do you enjoy most about his game?

Andy is a good presence for us. He can draw attention and free other people up. I think he’s fitting right in. it kind of feels like he’s been with us all year. Hes aggressive in the post, and our team really needs that.

You do so much on the floor for the team, but do you see yourself having to do more on the boards now?

Absolutely, I can always do more on the boards. That is something that I have to work out within myself.

How much does the loss of Jeff Xavier hurt the team? How does the team have to compensate his departure?

Losing Jeff is a big blow to the team. He was our best shooter and brought great energy to our team. Now that he’s gone everyone has to elevate their game.

What does medi Bayreuth have to do as a whole in the second half of the season to be more successful as a team?

We have to learn how to play a full 40 minutes and we have to be able to string wins together.

Ex NBA player Travis Leslie is back from along injury. What does he give the team now that was missing for months?

Honestly, Trav gives us more fire power. He’s another weapon we can use and we missed on the floor.

Jake Odum has really stepped it up in the last weeks and is currently averaging 6,7apg. Especially in the big win against Frankfurt before Christmas, he came up huge with 18 points and 10 assists. How has his leadership grown throughout the season?

Jake has always been our leader on the floor. I’ve said this a few times to different people that, he’s one of the smartest point guards I’ve played with.

You continue to be one of the more consistent performers on the team and have been playing very well as of last as you are shooting 8/14 from outside in the last two games and have kept your turnovers down in the last three games. What is your biggest goal in your personal game in the second half?

My biggest goal is to be more assertive and confident on the floor and with my game in general. But ultimately, I’m willing to do whatever I have to To help my team win.

The next game is against the Fraport Skyliners who currently have a 9 game winning streak. In the first game medi Bayreuth won 82-69 with the help of timely shooting from Jeff Xavier. This time around Xavier won´t be around. What will be key to getting the win on the road?

As a team, we have to go out and play our game. We all have to be on the same page and play the way we know we can.

The Fraport Skyliners have three guys out, but always get a team effort and have guys contributing from the bench. They have incredible ball movement. From a defensive stand point, how does one combat that best?

We stick to our game plan and we go out there and play basketball.

Who is your pick in Superbowl 50 Denver vs Carolina?

I’m happy either way, but I think that Cam Newton and the panthers deserve it. I think its Cam Newtons time right now and a lot of people are hating on him right now because of what he represents.

What was the last movie that you saw?

The last movie I saw was the diabolical, and I don’t recommend it.

Thanks Ken for the chat.
