He continues to play in the IBL each summer for Bellingham and talked to German Hoops after his third IBL title.

Blake congrats on winning a third consecutive IBL title with Bellingham. Do you have a secret formula that you could possibly pass on to guys who are still seeking that first title?

No secret, we just play as a team. We like seeing each other have success and we work hard to make sure that we are getting everyone involved.

Bellingham won the deciding game 143-126 a shoot out which by the score might have been a triple OT game in the NBA, but this was in a full 48 minutes. What at the end was key for getting the win?

We just out worked them. We came out with a lot of energy and we were making shots, played great defense and played together.

Vancouver got the hot hand from Andre Murray who exploded with 31 points while MVP honours went to your teammate Austin Bragg who finished with 27 points and 12 rebounds. How much fun is it playing with him under the basket?

It’s great. I can draw the double team and drop the ball off to him for easy dunks. I get excited putting my teammates in the right place to have success.

You were close to the double with nine point, 10 rebounds and eight assists. Is your game style different than what you have displayed with Herten and Dorsten the last two years?

No my style is the same, I just don’t have to focus on scoring as much. I enjoy facilitating the ball from the post position and I get to do that with the Slam.

Was this third title with Bellingham sweeter than your first two? Where do you rate this title your third in 2014?

I rate them even. Every championship feels amazing. It’s a feeling that would never get old.

With the exception of Troy Gottselig, most of your teammates are semi professionals playing only in the IBL. Do you see yourself as a type of role model for the young guys in the team who are just out of college looking for that dream as a professional possibly in Europe?

I wouldn’t say a role model, but I do offer any advice that would help someone else trying to continue their basketball career.

Herten finished the season in 10th place with a record of 8-14. What was your season recap and what was missing from the playoffs?

I just believe we needed more consistent scoring all around. A lot of the time we were playing good basketball, but would fall short at different points in the game which caused us to not be successful with winning.

You had another great season playing 27 games and averaging 20.9ppg, Reb-1(12.3rpg), 3.1apg, 2.0spg, FGP: 61.9%, 3PT: 31.0%, FT: 73.4%. How happy were you with your individual season? Can one really pick at flaws in your game?

I’m happy individually, but I would much rather get wins as a team.

You are Mr double double and since you have been a professional, you have always had double double stats. You are 25 and not even in your prime yet. Can you make the next step this season at a higher level in Europe?

I believe I can step up for sure. I’m just waiting on my chance to play on a bigger stage.

How confident are you that you will be playing in Germany again next season? You have always stayed played in Germany and seem comfortable here.

I’m not sure, I’m willing to play wherever I can. I am definitely comfortable in Germany, but I’m open to other places.

Now that you won a third title in a row with Bellingham, where does one go to when one goes to Disney Land after winning the NBA title?

Lol Haha I go to Maryland. The east coast is where all of my family is, so it will be nice to spend time with them.

What was the last DVD movie that you saw?

Last DVD was Think like a Man

Thanks Blake for the chat.
