Dijuan Harris is a 175cm guard from Charlotte, North Carolina that started the season with the LTi Giessen 46ers and now moved to BC Prievidza. He is a guard that is super fast and strong point guard. Pushes the ball quick in transition and scores in a variety of ways. Uses ball screens well, and finishes in the lane with his strength. Creates open looks for all his teammates and puts a lot of pressure on the defense when on the fast break. He is a great defender because of his quickness, and beats the offense to the spot because of his great anticipation.Last season, he played for Usak Universitesi Belediyespor (Turkey-TB2L, starting five): 36 games: 14.1ppg, 2.5rpg, 3.4apg, 1.3spg, FGP: 50.9%, 3PT: 23.4%, FT: 72.9%. Germany was your third station in Europe. After a strong start to the season where you scored in double figures in three of the first four games, you now are no longer playing for the LTi Giessen 46ers. Would you have thought that it would come to this?
No I never thought it would come to this, but in life sometimes things happen that you don’t plan. It’s not that it happened It’s How I respond to it now that it has.
How disappointed are you not being able to finish the season with the LTi Giessen 46ers? Would you have liked to finish the season under other circumstances? The club was effected by their financial problems throughout the season?
I would have loved to finish season here, but do to the situation at hand it was best to move on.
You averaged over 30 minutes in the first six games and then your minutes went down drastically. Why do you think this happened? Perhaps with the emergence of Achmadschah Zazai?
I’m not the coach and I don’t make those decisions. Still to this day I don’t know why it happened. There was never a conversation as to why it happened. I felt like I was backed up against the wall and had nowhere to go, but I wish them nothing but the best in their ongoing effort to finish the season strong
Do you believe that head coach Matthias Fischer lost confidence in you?
Honestly Yes I do, and when it gets to that point It’s nothing you can do. I’m not so sure why though. I was playing well, but then the light switched and I wasn’t playing hardly at all, and that was tough. This was the toughest situation I have been in as a player. I wish things could of worked out differently. I felt like I could of helped the team more if given the same opportunity as in the beginning. There was never a reason, conversation, explanation as to why. This has made me so much stronger, and hungrier to prove that I belong.
Do you think that you could have showed more of your talent had you had more playing time?
Yes, I feel that would be any player. If I was given more time I would have been able to showcase my talent a lot more.
How difficult was it as a professional basketball player playing with a team where no one knew what would happen next on account of the financial difficulties?
IN THAT SITUATION YES IT CAN BE DIFFICULT TO PLAY NOT KNOWING, BUT I WAS FINE BECAUSE UP UNTO THAT POINT EVERYTHING WAS ON TIME FINANCIALLY SO AS A PLAYER YOU MUST JUST DO YOUR JOB AND CONTINUE ON.
How intense was the on court rivalry with Achmadschah Zazai? Was the guard competition one of the most intense that you have experienced in your basketball career so far?
IT WAS NO ON COURT RIVALRY WITH ME AND CHA CHA.
Giessen let Americans Ryan Brooks and Laquan Prowell go to the Fraport Skyliners to free up money to save their season, but then brought in Sharaud Curry. Does that make sense? They could of gone with Zazai and Jonas Wiesner in the guard rotation.
I know Curry, he is a great guy. First and foremost, and he played for Mathias last season, so I feel it was the connection they had and him being right here in Giessen.
What did you learn from your experience with the LTi Giessen 46ers that will help you down the road?
I learned a lot, most importantly I LEARNED HOW TO HANDLE A SITUATION YOU CAN’T WIN, NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO.
I saw your best game against the Eisbaeren Bremerhaven where you scored 23 points and dished out four assists. What was your most fond game memory with Giessen?
The first game against Hagen. We won at their place. I had 13pts 9ass. Bremerhaven statistically was best game, but Hagen was best performance. We played together and had fun and got a win. Oh, yeah on one particular play I threw Ryan Brooks an alley-op and then did the CAM NEWTON. That was funny to back and see it on tape,
What is the next step for Dijuan Harris? Would you like to play for another team in Germany?
The next step for Dijuan Harris, is to continue on with my career in a different country. I know already Where I’m going just can’t announce it yet. If there were a team in need of a pg Yes, I like Germany and the BBL is a great competitive league.
Who was your most difficult player opponent that you played against on the court in Germany?
There were a lot of very good players here. The most difficult is a tough question. I would probably say Rice from Munich, or Burrell from Bremerhaven. LAST BUT NOT LEAST, I WANT TO THANK HEIKO AND MANAGEMENT FOR THE OPPORTUNITY AND THE FANS OF GIESSEN WERE GREAT. ONE OF THE BEST PLACES TO PLAY IN BBL. THINGS DON’T ALWAYS GO AS PLANNED, BUT YOU MUST BE READY WHEN SITUATION COMES UP THAT YOU AS A PLAYER CAN’T CONTROL. IN MY CASE ADVERSITY STRUCK, BUT IT’S HOW I REACT TO IT THAT WILL MAKE ME A BETTER PERSON, AND PLAYER. I AM CONFIDENT IN MYSELF, AND MY ABILITY TO GET THE JOB DONE ON THE FLOOR. I WILL BOUNCE BACK FROM THIS, IT’S JUST A SMALL SETBACK TO MY AMAZING COMEBACK. AGAIN, I WISH GIESSEN NOTHING BUT THE BEST IN THEIR FUTURE ENDEAVORS. I HAD A GREAT TIME WHILE IT LASTED, BUT THE NEW SITUATION WILL GIVE ME A NEW MINDSET.
Who will win the Superbowl?
I am going with Ray Lewis and the Baltimore Ravens.
What was the last DVD movie that you saw?
Thanks Dijuan for the chat.
