How tough is it to defend Ratiopharm Ulm center John Bryant?

He is a big body. He missed his first shot, but then hit something like his next 11 shots. He had some nice pop out jumpers. When he gets going, he is hard to stop.

Have you ever played against a big guy like Bryant?

I defended many big guys in the Adriatic league. Guys that were 7.5.

Everyone knew before the season started that it wouldn´t be an easy season for the Walter Tigers Tuebingen. How is the mental state of the team?

The mental state is good. It is tough not winning games. We have many young guys who haven´t lost like this before in their career. There were quite a few games we could of won. You just have to look on to the next game. The positive thing is that we have many young players who are eager to come each day to practice and give new energy and continue to work hard.

Besides the team being young what are the biggest problems that the team has on the court?

Because of a lack of experience, we have problems handling adversity in certain game situations. When the opponent goes on a 6-8 point run we get down. We have to be able to bounce back, stick to the game plan and focus on details.

Is there maybe too much pressure on the shoulders of American Lou Campbell?

No I don’t think that there is too much pressure for him. We know that he can score, but he has a bit of a different role, more here to create. We have enough fire power on the team. Campbell isnt expected to bring crazy numbers.

Does Tuebingen head coach Igor Perovic have every in his grasp despite the slow start?

He is totally motivated and is keeping us focused. We are all working hard in practice, but just haven´t been able to carry it over into games.

What was exactly  your role in the team?

My role is to provide leadership to the young kids Nash and Hodzic and come off the bench and give some spark with some easy buckets, play the pick and roll, have the defense collapse and get some wing players open shots.

What is a strength in your game that doesn´t get noticed right away on the court?

I always have had a good midrange jumper, but wasn´t always allowed to use it. Igor Perovic gives us freedom on offense. I like taking the 15-17 foot mid range jumpers.

What new Tuebingen player has impressed you the most?

I couldn´t really pin point just one. Duggins has showed that he is a great scorer and has confidence on offense and defense just as Redding. Young isn´t so vocal off the court, but on the court he has come alive in the vocal department.

You were born in Toronto and have Serbian parents. How was it you chose basketball in a country where ice hockey is number one?

I was always tall as a kid and just wasn´t coordinated with a stick. I was more fit to play basketball.

Who were your basketball idols as a kid?

Michael Jordan and David Robinson.

What was your fondest memory at Ohio State(NCAA)

Winning the Big 10 tournament and going to the NCAA tournament.

You played with ex NBA player Ken Johnson. What could you learn from him?

I learned from him to keep the ball up always against him and too put an arc on the ball. He was able to block so many jumpers right out of the gym.

In the 2006-2007 season you played with Bamberg forward Predrag Suput with KK Hemofarm Vrsac. How has he developed since then in the Beko BBL?

He played the three there and now the four with Bamberg. He knows the game so well playing with  a guard mentality at a big position. He always knows how to find the open space and reads the game so well.

Who was the best opponent that you played against in your career?

Devin Harris. He had so many weapons. He is so quick and could make 30 points on you without breaking a sweat.

The most free throws that you have made in a practice in a row.

40-50 without thinking.

What was your most crazy shot in a game?

Back in high school there was 1-2 seconds on the clock before halftime. I caught the ball on the wing, stepped back 9 meters away with a hand in my face and made it.

Who wins a one on one in practice you or Tyrone Nash?

He is a tough player with active hands. He is very good in the post, athletic and a good shot. We never go 1-1 after practice, but more in 5-5 in practice.

What is your fondest Halloween memory?

Dressing up as a ghost or skeleton and then having an upset stomach eating to much candy.

What was the last DVD movie that you saw?

Paranormal activity 3. Part 1 and 2 were better. The third seemed recycled.

Thanks Velimir for the chat.
