He is back in the Beko BBL with the Brose Baskets Bamberg.  He spoke to German Hoops after the 79-78 loss against Malaga in Euroleague play.

A tough 79-78 loss to Malaga in Euroleague play. The Brose Baskets Bamberg poured on 27 points in the first quarter. Were you surprised about the run and gun faster pace instead of more a defense typ of style?

I wasn´t surprised about the style in the first quarter. That is how we like to play and we wanted to impose our style and get off to a good start quickly.

In the second quarter, Malaga came back and stifled Bamberg a bit with their zone. Why couldn´t Bamberg react?

We weren´t hitting our shots and they started to hit more which allowed them to come back. We weren´t paying attention to details with their zone and we also had defensive lapses.

You had a monster left handed dunk over 221cm Nedzad Sinanovic. Where would you rate this dunk in the all time best of Marcus Slaughter dunks?

That is tough since I have had so many dunk. Since he is a seven footer and I was able to dunk over him, I would put this dunk in my top 5. The dunk was big at the time since we needed a push in the game and it got the crowd going.

You told me some weeks ago that you would be very motivated to play Malaga. Was it only because you played against them last season in the ACB?

Yes that and that I have many friends on the team and I know the coaches and they know me well. It is normal for a player to want to do extra well against a team where there are many friends playing.

In the second half, you had a sweet ally-op dunk from Anton Gavel. It seems like you two guys have a blind understanding on the court?

We do, but actually I didn´t expect him to throw it up, but was expecting a bounce pass. Everyone knows pretty much anything that is thrown up near the basket, I will get. It was just one of those times where It was time to get it.

Near the end of the fourth quarter, defensive specialist Karsten Tadda nailed two huge three pointers. How big was his play at that juncture?

Karsten is a great shooter and we have so much confidence in him. He made some very tough shots in crunch time, usually shots where you don’t expect from a young player, but we never have any doubt with him. He really stepped it up and proved again how important he can be.

Was not securing the last rebound which led to the winning bucket by Rodriguez as the key reason for losing the game?

I believe that you can´t blame that one play as the sole reason for losing the game.  There were many plays from the start to the end, like defensive mistakes, lost rebounds or missed free throws that have to contribute to us losing this game. That last rebound was a tough one, because it came off the rim so fast that it was a 50/50 chance of getting it. You have to give Rodriguez a lot of credit for making that incredible shot.

Can The Brose Baskets Bamberg quickly forget this loss and focus on the Fraport Skyliners?

I believe that we can. Last weekend we lost by 30 in Moscow and returned to play on the road in Hagen and won by 30. We have shown that we can bounce back and we will feel very comfortable playing at home.

The Fraport Skyliners are going through tough times are riding a three game losing streak. What will be key in getting the win?

We take no team lightly and will concentrate on ourselves. If we play our style and work hard then we always have a good chance to beat anyone.

Thanks Marcus for the chat.
