Can A Super Murat Didin Energy Doner Creation Propel The Gloria Giants Duesseldorf Past The Deutsche Bank Skyliners January 29th?

With the 2011 NFL playoffs starting to get near the peak of the Superbowl, the Australian Open tennis tournament in its second week, and all Germans glued to their TVs to see which nasty insect will be eaten next in the German TV show Im a star getting me out of here camp, basketball fans should not forget that the BEKO BBL will start the second half on January 29th as the Deutsche Bank Skyliners want to get both feet off on the winning track with a victory in the elegant jazzy Burg Wachter Castello arena against The Gloria Giants Duesseldorf. In anticipation, that ex Skyliner coach Murat Didin might give his team the same spiced up extraordinary energy Doner that the Brose Baskets Bamberg got earlier this season as The Deutsche Bank Skyliners will have to be as focused as Bart Scott from the New York jets was in his post game interview after the win against The New England Patriots, comedic actor Sasha Baron Cohen who will be playing Saddam Hussein in the upcoming project “The Dictator” and the way UCONN junior Kemba Walker has been playing like a Pitbull winning games in crunch time and being known as the Kemba show. Frankfurt has been perfect at home and have lost all four games on the road and might have to hope that the special powerful Doner that Didin produces gets lost on game day. “Didin should put in some peppers and some special Turkish spices that his team is not used to eating to help give the team the extra energy to get by Frankfurt”, stressed TBB Trier guard John Bynum.
This season, The Gloria Giants Duesseldorf have had another season to forget as it started off bad and only got worse. Of course, Didin didnt make things any easier on himself signing five new players on the eve of the first game in Bremerhaven. The Gloria Giants Duesseldorf started off the season with a 8 game losing streak before winning two games in a row against MBC and Phoenix Hagen. One should not forget even though the Giants are in last place, they dont share the longest losing streak in the BEKO BBL this season as the Giessen 46ers currently are riding on a 13 game losing streak. However instead of getting on a healthy winning streak the team lost their next six games in a row before getting on the win column again beating the 3 time BEKO BBL team Brose Baskets Bamberg 72-69. How important was this win for the BEKO BBL stopping the Bamberg dominance? “No disrespect to to Duesseldorf, but any win that they get is very important. It could of been against any other team and it would of been just as important”, warned John Bynum. Since the win, Duesseldorf has lost two more games to the Eisbaeren Bremerhaven and Bamberg again. A big problem is their defense as they have given up 80 or more points 10 times, but the team has improved. “Duesseldorf made some changes and made themselves better and they seem to improve with every game as does every other team. With the second half starting, I am sure they will continue to improve and win some more games”, stressed California native John Bynum.

Already as coach of The Deutsche Bank Skyliners, Didin was often questioned about his constant changing lineups as some kind of poison for the team chemistry. Bringing in five new players on the day of the first game kept Duesseldorf back somewhat in terms of being able to develop that team chemistry. In recent weeks there were rumors of Besiktas Istanbul center Andrew Oglivy being loaned which never happened and Chris Ellis who is the son of NBA legend dale Ellis was in for a tryout, but left the Rhine river again. How healthy can the constant player comings and going influence the players performance and the development of team chemistry? “It is very difficult for team chemistry and in the back of the mind of the team players you wonder what is going to happen and you cant but think about security as well. It is really tough for a player coming to work not knowing what could happen. I am sure Didin has reasons for changing players the way he does and I think it is tough to create team chemistry like this, but on the other hand I have never been a coach and maybe he sees things differently and has to react like that”, warned John Bynum.
The Duesseldorf Giants had a season to forget last year. They finished the year in 17th place with a record of 8-26. The team had a more than solid roster, but something was missing. If the team ever formed a healthy chemistry is debatable, but not having power in the zone was something that hindered the team from winning more games. “I thought that Duesseldorf had decent chemistry, but they had no true bigs. They had no inside scoring except for Koko Archibong”, stressed Phoenix Hagen American Quentin Pryor. The team gave up 80 or more points 12 times and had losing streaks of five, six and seven games. Their biggest wins were a 70-69 win against Bonn, 80-78 victory against The New Yorker Phantoms Braunschweig and a clean sweep of the Giessen 46ers. Despite some real old time shoot outs and getting hit with triple digit results, the club was able to manage to hold Giessen and Ludwigsburg to under 50 points. It was no secret that the club was having financial difficulties already last season, so the continuation of the operations was more than up in the air in the spring of 2010 as another playoffs had been missed. Didin had been dismissed in Frankfurt and the friendly Turk saw some potential with the Duesseldorf Giants and did like comic super hero Superman and saved the day a second time. A year earlier he had brought the BBL sponsor BEKO and now he brought the Giants Duesseldorf sponsor Gloria which is a Turkish hotel chain. The league gave Duesseldorf a wild card and all of a sudden the club was not history anymore, but on its way to a third season.
The budget for the 2010-2011 BEKO BBL season for Duesseldorf was about as limited as the meal money for NBA teams, so Didin had to do his homework and find the most talented and best players for the little money that was available. Didin signed many unknown players and some from the Basketball minor leagues in the States and from the fourth divison of the college ranks. Despite beating top European club Dynamo Moscow, Didin seemed not to be real pleased with his roster. So on October 1st , the day of the first game in Bremerhaven he pulled a risky coup that probably only he could of done as he waived Jibril Hodges, Eddie Ard and Rocky Hampton and brought in Jamaal Tatum, Steven Wright, Jamie Jones, Ransford Brempong, Laimonas Kisielius, and Olumuyiwa Famutimi. It was no surprise that Duesseldorf lost 96-70 in Bremerhaven. “It was a difficult adjustment with the new players, but we have improved each day in practice and are finding together. We are also understanding each other better and better on and off the court”, stressed Patrick Wischnewski. Despite the lack in talent in comparison to the other BEKO BBL teams, the club is confident of their ability. “We have a skilled big man with Ransford Brempong and I think you saw what he could do in Bremerhaven. We have skilled guards and I think good enough players to be successful. All we need are wins. We have to keep practicing hard and minimize mistakes”, stressed Patrick Wischnewski.”Brempong is a player to watch and Haynes was decent”, warned Bremerhaven guard Jermaine Thomas.
The history between The Deutsche Bank Skyliners and the Gloria Giants Duesseldorf is very short as the new reformed team is starting their third season. Before coming to Duesseldorf, they were in Leverkusen were they were one of top clubs in 70s, 80s and 90s winning 13 BEKO BBL titles and 10 cups. In the 2008-2009 season, Frankfurt swept the season series winning a nail bitter in Duesseldorf 84-80 as Titus Ivory scored 21 points. They won at home 64-58 as Keith Simmons chipped in with 14 points and 13 rebounds and won a third place game in Hamburg in the German cup semi finals 73-69. Last season, who could forget the exciting 70-67 win as Quzantez Robertson won the game on a buzzer beater. Frankfurt lost a heart breaker at home 66-64 despite 28 points and 11 rebounds from Derrick Allen. The game will feature another meeting between Quantez Robertson and Steven Wright who were Slam dunk foes in the 2011 BEKO BBL Allstar game. Robertson finished in third place while Wright will just cherish being part of the big show. Both players will have their usual duties on the floor, but I am sure both guys will show their athletic skills during the game more than once. “Both players are really athletic and both have experience playing in the BEKO BBL. It will be a good match up. I enjoyed competing against them in the slam dunk contest in Trier. Wright is very athletic and should never be underestimated”, warned John Bynum. This is a must win for the Deutsche Bank Skyliners average 12 points more per game and have the huge rebounding edge. Anything but a win for Frankfurt will be a huge disappointment. After 5 days off and a good week of practice, The Deutsche Bank Skyliners will be ready as everybody seems healthy and raring to go for a strong second half. Frankfurt cant take Duesseldorf lightly at all, because Murat Didin will be shooting for a win against his old team. Didins favorite word in Frankfurt was “High Intensity” and that is how he will want his Giants to play to try to get Frankfurt off track, but then again the gang of Gordon Herbert might only need one run to endanger the Giants from being able to recover. “Frankfurt has to do the usual controlling the tempo and letting Dashaun Wood do his magic and take shots”, warned John Bynum. The Gloria Giants Duesseldorf will have to play incredibly focused and with a lot of intensity in order to be successful plus have those Doners served in the locker room before the game with the special Murat Didin touch. Besides trying to limit Wood to scoring or playmaking, but not both, the team will need to do crucial other things. “Duesseldorf has to be patient and make Frankfurt play defense and control the boards”, added John Bynum. Frankfurt has had their share of close games this season and a big win would do the club some good. Many will remember the Robertson buzzer beater last season. “I remember that my buzzer beater well, but I hope we can win the game easier than with a buzzer beater again”, joked Quantez Robertson. The Gloria Giants Duesseldorf host The Deutsche Bank Skyliners On January 29th
