John spoke to German Hoops about basketball and life.

You are playing your fourth season in Bonn with a lot of success. Are you a guy that by nature likes to stay in one place?

Yes I am. I really enjoy it in Bonn. Coach Koch makes it very comfortable to play for him. It is hard to replace wining the way we have in the last years. I like to be happy and have found happiness and want to continue to win.

The Telekom Baskets Bon have reached the BBL final the last two years and the cup final last season. What does this years team have that will get you over the ump to winning that first title?

I think that this years team has more discipline and is smarter that will take us over the edge. Last years team was very athletic and we have lost some of that, but we will make it up with our Basketball IQ. I think it will be a good year, because we will play smart and hard.

Boon will play more inside this season. How is your relationship with Chris Ensminger?

Chris is good to work with. It is always great to have a veteran on the team who has played many years in the BBL.He gives me a lot of hints and tips. Having him on the team has made my job easier. Chris brings a level of toughness that we didn’t have last season. He brings an intimidation factor to our team that we didn´t have last season.

Who wins a one or one? You or Chris?

Each day is different. I would always put money on myself because of who I am. He sometimes gets the upper hand on me. Playing together with him this season will benefit Bonn very much.

You lost a close game to the Artland Dragons 76-75. You played very efficient scoring 15 points in 18 minutes. Would you like to have more playing time or are you ok with your role?

I think that I could contribute a lot more with more minutes. But I am happy how everything is going. We lost a tough game at home, missed getting some calls. I had some foul trouble in Ulm. It is still early in the season so it is hard to tell exactly what role you have. The most important thing is that the team is capable of wining.

It is not always pretty how you play, but you always find a way to score and get rebounds. Was there an NBA player that you had as a role model?

I like Elton Brand and when I was young Charles Barkley. It is not always pretty when I play, but it has to be done. I need to play like this, because I can out work guys like that and it helps me do things that other guys don’t do.

Last year in the BBL final against Oldenburg, you showcased old school moves that were cool. What else would you like to add to your game if you could?

I lost a lot of weight from last season. My jumping ability has gotten a lot better. I was sidelined for a while with my injury, but things are coming back to me. I hope that some new John Bowler moves will come. I am hoping for a good year and give what ever I can that will be an advantage for the team to win.

With Jared Jordan, The Telekom Baskets Bonn have gotten a great passer. Has Jordan done anything spectacular in practice yet?

What Jordan does in games is what he does in practice. He is really good at hitting the half court shot. We often have bets in practice as to who can hit them and he somehow wins mostly. He will continue to impress the league with his ability. He gets assists, is unselfish and gives us a huge advantage at the point guard position with his passing and drive kick ability.

Who was the best player that you ever played against at eastern Michigan?

Chris Kaman. He was really tough to guard. Back then, I was a little freshman looking up to him. He played well against me and is by far the best center I ever played against.

With which BBL player would you like to play in the same team?

There are so many good players in the BBL, which is very underrated. I would love to play with Julius Jenkins, because he is a great player and gets calls or Alexsandar Nadjfeji, because of his high low passing ability. But I cant complain, because I have great teammates.

What German food makes you weak?

German food is good and my favourite in the world. I have had food in France and England, but German food is probably the best in Europe. My favourite is probably Bratwurst. I am from German hertitage and my grandmother always made that for me. But I recently had good Wiener Schnitzel.

What was the last DVD that you saw?

It was an old classic movie called Lords Of Dog Town. It is about the start of skate boarding in California. It wasn´t bad.

Thanks John for the chat. Good luck against MBC. I ´ll see you in a few weeks at the Frankfurt game.

No problem Miles. Any time for you.
