He spoke to German Hoops during training camp.

Nate, welcome to the BBL. How do you like Paderborn?

I have not seen much so far just having been on the track and on the court. I have seen downtown and it was nice.

Even though last season was tough for Paderborn for long stages, they reached their first playoffs and took 8 time BBL champion alba Berlin to 5 games. This season, the team has gotten a facelift and are starting over. Do you feel any pressure to reach that kind of success that the team had last season?

I dont feel much pressure since everything is new. No one has really talked about last season. There is a good feeling here and we are getting along.

The team has five new Americans. Has a team leader been established yet?

We have many guys and all have been working hard. Some of the older guys have been more vocal, but a real leader has not been established yet. I think as soon as the test games start then we will see more leadership roles.

Olaf Stolz is the new coach. What is your early impression of him so far?

He is a good coach. Off the court, he talks to everyone, but on the court, he is all business. He just wants us to work hard each day.

What kind of style can we await from The Paderborn Baskets this season?

It is difficult to say exactly what kind of style so early in the season, but I think that we will be competitive and we will not go out and lose by 30 points.

The best known German for The Paderborn Baskets is Nico Simon. He played for Alba Berlin had injury problems and last season played for Ehingen. How is he developing in camp and playing against Deandre Haynes and Lawrence Bortha?

Simon has played well in practice. He is quick with the ball is a good passer and sees the game well. He always knows where players are on the court. Lawrence and Deandre are good guards and all three of them are like road runners on the court. Lawrence Bortha will be a good player in the BBL.

Has coach Olaf Stolz given you the starting center job or will be a duel between you and Matt Terwilliger to see who gets the job?

Coach has not really given us any roles yet. Matt can play the 4/5 positions. I dont know how much time I will get. I will continue to give my best in practice.

Last season, you had strong stats with BV Chemnitz in the PRO A averaging 15,6ppg and 8,5rpg. Will you be able to crack the BBL?

Honestly I have never really thought about stats. The most important thing for me is to be efficient whenever I am on the court. It doesnt matter if I am on the court for 30 minutes or 6 minutes. I want to be as efficient as possible in that time.

What things do you still need to work with your game?

I think that I can still work on my jump shot even though it is something that I dont really use in a game. I do more the things that I am good at like rebounding and defense.

At first glance, one could compare you to legendary boxer George Foreman when seeing your smile. Do you get compared to him a lot?

I was already laughing when I heard the name Foreman in your German. This is actually the first I have ever heard that. I actually had an afro in college, but since then have shaved my head. People see my bald head now, but my friends at home dont really know me with a shaved head.lol

Thanks Nate for the chat! Good luck this season with The Paderborn Baskets!
