Bryan Smithson (I Was Able To Be A Little More Creative In My Approach To Scoring Which Made Me A Better Player)

Bryan Smithson is a 30 year old 185cm point guard from Kennesaw,Georgia that just completed his thrid season in Germany and first with the MPL Academics Heidelberg. He started his basketball career at Middle Tennessee St. (NCAA) in 2003 where he played two seasons. He then moved to NC-Asheville (NCAA) where he finished his college career and as a senior played  29 games: 16.4ppg, 4.0rpg, 4.1apg, 1.9spg, FGP: 45.1%, 3Pts: 41.1%, FT: 83.5%. He played two seasons for the Kirchheim Knights in the German Pro A where he was top 5 in assists in the league the last two seasons. Last season for Kichheim he played 28 games: 12.0ppg, 3.4rpg, Assists-5(5.0apg), FGP: 46.3%, 3PT: 40.2%, FT: 88.2%. He spoke to German Hoops after the season ended.

Bryan thanks for talking to German Hoops. Where are you at the moment and how has your summer been?

Hi Miles, great to hear from you again. I am currently at home in Atlanta, Georgia enjoying the sunny weather. My summer is going very well.

Your season ended at the end of March. Has the time from then until now felt like an eternity or has the time away from games flown by?

The early end to the season has been difficult for me. I enjoy being home with family and friends, but I would much rather be competing for a championship somewhere in the world. I feel like it has been an eternity since our last game.

Cedric Brooks (If You Are Not First Then You Are Last)

Cedric Brooks is a 32 year old 185cm guard that was born in Frankfurt, Germany and grew up in Texas. He has been a professional basketball player for 10 years. He started his basketball career at  Pittsburg St. (NCAA2) and in his senior year played 28 games: 20.8ppg, 3.7rpg, 3.9apg, 2.7spg, FGP: 43.4%, 3Pts: 30.0%, FT: 82.4%. He started his professional basketball career in 2003 and in his first two seasons played in some Spanish summer leagues, in the WBA and in mexico. In 2005 he came to Germany and has played here most of his career. He played for Nordlingen from 2005-2007 and in his second season led the German second Bundesliga in scoring playing  30 games: Score-1(24.9ppg), 2.9rpg, 3.9apg, Steals-2(3.4spg), 2FGP: 59.4%, 3FGP: 35.1%, FT: 82.4%. In 2007-2008, he played for Saint Vallier Basket Dr쎴me (France-ProB): 11 games: 9.7ppg, 2.2rpg, 2.5apg, 1.4spg, 2FGP: 39.1%, 3PT: 37.0%, FT: 72.0%, left the team for medical reasons, played shortly at Correcaminos UAT Victoria (Mexico-LNBP, starting five): 3 games: 10.0ppg, 3.3rpg, 3.3apg, 3.0spg, in Feb.’08 joined Atomeromu SE Paks (Hungary-A Division): 8 games: 10.8ppg, 1.6rpg, 1.0apg. In 2008-2009 he played for  FC Bayern Muenchen (Germany-ProA, starting five): 23 games: 15.9ppg, 3.1rpg, 3.4apg, Steals-5(2.0spg), FGP: 55.9%, 3PT: 32.5%, FT: 76.5%. He played for the Kirchheim Knights from 2009-2013 playing a total of  112 games. He spoke to German Hoops about basketball.

Hello Miles. I am currently in Texas. Working out with some Austin Toros of the NBA Developmental League and also working at a car dealership for a little extra money until I can find an offer to come back to Europe.

How was your summer? What was the coolist experience that you had in the last months in the States?

My summer was great, I had the chance to see some old friends and go to a wedding. I also went to Orlando to work out with some teams. The coolest experience was being around friends and family, being able to travel and play basketball without any stress or worries.

Ahmad Smith is a 27 year old 194cm guard from Virginia that is playing fort he Kirchheim Knights. He played at St.Bonaventure(NCAA) from 2002-2006 and in his senior year played 28 games: ScoreA10-8(14.2ppg), RebA10-10(6.2rpg), AssistsA10-9(3.5apg), FGP: 41.0%, 3PT: 31.1%, FT: 59.8%. In 2006-2007, he played for Mardyke UCC Demons Cork (Ireland-SuperLeague): 9 games: 18.9ppg, 5.7rpg, 4.2apg, FGP: 51.6%, 3PT: 37.1%, FT: 60.8%. In 2007-2008, he played for SVD 49 Dortmund (Regionalliga): 6 games: 30.2ppg. In 2008-2009, he played for : BSV Wulfen (Germany-Regionalliga) 23.5ppg, 10.1rpg, 6.0apg, 3PT: 35.2%. Last season, he played for s Oliver Baskets Wuerzburg (Germany-ProA): left before the season started, then moved to SVD 49 Dortmund (Germany-Regionalliga): 6 games: 12.8ppg, waived in Nov.’10, in Jan.’11 signed at Nuernberger Basketball Club (Germany-ProB, starting five): 15 games: 8.3ppg, 6.8rpg, Assists-1(7.1apg), 1.4spg, FGP: 39.1%, 3PT: 28.2%, FT: 69.1%. You are playing your first season for the Kirchheim Knights in the German PRO A. What has been the secret of the success of the team?

We have experience and we all get along well on the team. We also like to make the extra pass and play good defense.

Who has been the most improved player on the team?

Nils Menck. He didn´t get as much minutes last season, but he is showing what he can do this season.

Besnik Bekteshi is your teammate. What can he achieve as a player?

I think when he gets a bit older, that he can become a solid Beko BBL player. If he continues to work hard, sky is the limit.
