The Telekom Baskets started up and down this season. What have been the reasons for this?

Every team will always have a bad day and that is only normal. Coach Koch has to build  a structure for the new team. This takes time and confidence is always getting more and more with the team.

How is the team chemistry growing with the Telekom Baskets Bonn so far this season?

We started the season a step backward with our injuries and mistakes on defense. But as the Eurochallenge season started, we have been learning more and getting more experience and thus building more self confidence. Coach Koch has stressed that we take open shots, attack the zone and play fast break basketball. The team chemistry is growing more and more and that grows as we push each other.

In what areas does the team still need to improve on?

We can improve in many areas, but the most important is defense and getting more fluid in the offense.

The Telekom Baskets Bonn failed to get to the next round of the Eurochallenge. I am sure the club had high goals of reaching the next round?

Yes we did hope for more. We had very talented opponents that were playing very well not only in their country leagues, but also in the Eurochallenge. You never really know what can happen in a competition like this. If you aren’t totally serious, you will have harder chances to do well. The teams had more experience than us at each position.

Coach Michael Koch has been known for getting talented point guards. You played together with EJ Rowland who was a scorer and Jared Jordan who was a pass first point guard. Does Nic Wise bring a little of both to the table?

Yes Wise brings a little of both. He can score and pass, but one cant forget that he is a rookie just out from college. He needs to learn more how European basketball works, but that will come with time. Coach Koch is teaching him more how to create more and get team more into game.

Have the Bonn injuries gotten on your nerves as much as the snow in Germany?

The snow isn’t that bad, it is just the roads. The injuries hurt the team, but gave me extra minutes.

What is the status of the injuries to Vincent Yarbrough and Patrik Flomo?

I am not really sure when Yarbrough can play again. He is off his crutches and is always in the arena. He is walking up stairs. I hope he can play again soon. Patrick Flomo is fit and is playing again and has been doing individual work the last month and a half.

How have you grown to love Chris Ensminger on and off the court?

He is one of the best centers in the league and can do it all under the hoop, pass, and use both hands. He is just a complete player. Of the court he is a quiet player, but one that you can talk to. I have a lot of respect for him.

You are playing your third season in Bonn. How have you developed as a player?

I think that I have developed in Bonn and I am continuing to. I have learned a lot from coach Michael Koch with my shooting, ball handling and post play. I am allowed to mistakes and wont be taken off the court right away. He has a lot of confidence in my defense.

Do you think that you have the ability to be a starter in the BEKO BBL?

Yes I think that I can be. I am coachable and always want to get better.

What is a strength in your game that isn’t always noticeable?

I think my help side defense is a strength that isn’t always seen right away. I also think my communication with players and being positive is something that people don’t see right away as a strength in my game.

How important has Folarin Campbell been for The Telekom Baskets this season?

He helps us a lot. He didn’t have a good year in Artland last year, but this season one is seeing his qualities. He can shoot, penetrate and play very good defense.

You are only 25, but could you imagine ending your basketball career in Bonn?

I love to play in Bonn. They care very much for me and there is a big respect between player and management.

What do you miss the most from Frankfurt?

I miss the fans a lot and they always were very faithful to me. I also miss the city and training facilities. I have a lot of friends there and always felt comfortable there.

How were your nerves during game 5 Bamberg-Frankfurt in 2010 BEKO BBL final?

I actually didn’t see the game as I was on vacation.

How well can The Deutsche Bank Skyliners compete with The Brose Baskets Bamberg in a five game playoff series?

I am not sure, but I am sure Bonn can take them. Lol  I am not sure, but Bamberg is very consistent this season.

What is your favourite place in Bonn?

I like the down town area. I also like how Cologne, Duesseldorf and Leverkusen is around the corner.

Can Murat Didin save the Gloria Giants Duesseldorf from going to the PRO A?

He could make it. They had a bad start, but presented themselves well against us. They have  a big man problem, but it is no surprise that Murat plays without big men.

What were the most free throws that you hit in a row?

Who wins a one on one, you or Folarin Campbell?

We play before every game. We play twice from the top of the key and in the zone. He has the advantage at the top of the key and me in the zone. The games are even.

Will The Los Angeles Lakers win the 2011 NBA title?

You have to wait until June to see. I think that the Lakers have the ability to win again.

If Dirk Bauermann called you next summer and invite you to play for Bayern Munich, what would you say?

If I had the chance, then I would like to play there, but only if I were to get minutes. I would not go to Munich and just sit on the bench. That would not help the team or me.

Thanks Alex for the chat.
